Title: Lack of power

Had this problem a couple of times now. Driving through town at low speed, and the car with the spanner symbol comes on (service light??) When this happens car lacks power and wont rev (limp home mode??) No other lights come on, and turning off and then back on puts light out and car drives as normal. Any ideas? 2.2 petrol auto
