Title: Good looking Labrador looking for a Wife!!
Post by: holtender on 19 December 2012, 20:36:45
Dylan is a yellow Lab aged 6, he is a really special "once in a lifetime " kind of a dog!

I'd love to see him become a father, so I can own one of his sons. Any advice on finding a suitable mate?

I've tried Google, but keep coming up with dating sites for humans!

Best advice i can give.....is ask other dog walkers (with labs if poss) if they know any breeders of labs....theres a lot of puppy farms about.....but owners are likely to know of genuine breeders  ;)

I'd just let him off the lead at the park and see what he sniffs out!  ;D

Talk to the kennel club. They are helpful with breeders who act responsibly

The first port of call.
Breeding dogs is a rather complicated affair with pedigree and family tree highly important, i.e number of past champions etc. With labradors they are scored for gentic disorders like Hip Dysplacia so as to rule these disorders out from the breed. The choice of a good pedigree dog with the correct standard for the breed, colour coupling  the resulting litter being Black, Yellow, Chocolate or a mixture of them is highly important. It  is down to the owners of the bitch to select a dog based on their criteria. You as the owner of the dog will either be paid the value of a puppy or pick of the resulting litter, the better your dog the more chance you will have.
Please also bear in mind it is a pretty closed shop among renowned breeders. ::) ::)

I'll stick with our two rescued Labs both neutered :y :y
