Title: Auto Warning
Post by: Rog on 20 December 2012, 18:04:37
Just an hour ago, driving home in slow traffic, "Check" light comes on and screen says "Auto Gearbox" or something, and car is in "limp-home-mode" or whatever it's called.

Called my friendly garage, tells me to switch off completely and back on again. Did this, and screen briefly reads "Message" and voice reads out some codes, no I couldn't write 'em down, all very fast.

Popped into garage, guy gets behind wheel and starts etc, all completely fine. It's couple of days before Crimbo so even if anything wrong, he can't do anything about it till New Year. Also he says that gearbox has different chip or something so he doubts if he has the kit himself to be able to plug in as normal.

So, my question. Given the above would you do a 600 mile round trip over the weekend ?

Please don't tell me to remove this or that and do this or that. I don't do DIY and don't have time anyway as I leave tomorrow afternoon. Just need to decide whether to take the Omega or the Mrs Volvo.  ???

Oh, it's a 2000 2.5 V6 Elite Auto Estate Petrol, and it's been an expensive pain in the butt since I got it   >:(    >:(    >:(

Keep eye on the LEDs by gearstick if it reoccurs. If they are not behaving, clean/replace range switch.

The numbers read out are not relevent, thats for the now (mostly) defunct TrafficMaster

So, that sounds a bit like a "take the Omega" then.

Trafficmaster message ? Could well be there's some kinda of switch thing on the dash with a T on it that does nothing.

Just clean your switch, it'll just cost you your time. (I appreciate the weather though )  :y

Well, did the trip absolutely no problems, and the whole thing just has not happened again. Seems like it was just a "one -off" maybe some software clitch or something.
