ok, but what about the price? ;D
And where to go? :-\

Have you tried Asda.
-
That's cheap ... my varifocals cost £450 odd quid, and the frames were re-used !!!
SWTSMBO had to have new frames as hers broke ... just over £500 in total .. :(

There is a spAsda nearby, but no, they took specsavers out of their precinct and put their own in, they didn't fill me with confidence on booking an appointment much less messing around with eyes. Although I've had the eye test done now, so might be worth a look for just glasses.

I have a pair of reading glasses and a pair of distance glasses and between them you are looking at around £700 from opticians.
I need wire frames as my job requires me to peer over the frames a lot and then it's extra for scratch resistant lenses.
Losing your vision is not cheap, which is why a lot of people put it off for so long. I need a hearing aid as well now (aid as in singular as I'm totally deaf in one ear), gawd knows what that will cost. :-\
-
I have two pairs of reading glasses at 2.5 x magnification. £1 each at poundland :y

Swmbo has just recently frogmarched shuffled me to Tesco for vision & reading glasses as she said the Pound shop ones I normally insist on were 'rubbish'!
Picked up the new glasses only to find they've forgotten to put the 'intermediate reading' in the lenses, so they've had to go back to the lab ???
Ah well, back to the old faithful pound shop ones! ;D ;D ;D

Tesco varifocals cost me 12 months ago 75 including frames :y

Depends on the prescription, mine are different for each eye. (quiet at the back)... with one eye short sited and one eye long. (I said quiet at the back) and a prism issue to boot. Whatever that is, I know the symptom but not how that affects manufacture of the lenses. They are talking about splicing lenses together, for some reason.
(right I heard that, Esty that's I weeks detention for mentioning bog eyed monster, bloody kids)

Actually, I wouldn't say that you were very much. I wear varifocal with anti-scratch coatings and it usually cost me a bit more than that at Specsavers. BUT mine are Varifical not BiFocal and they have coatings.
Sooooo £277 for two pairs may be a bit OTT but not much.

Had new bifocals from local opticians a couple of weeks ago for 130 quid.
Just cannut get used to 'em. >:(

If you need prisms, it'll cost ya. Guess you already know that. My ex needed prisms in both. €750.

yep very good and which also recommend them as well... :y

Same here, yet at work I am forever putting my reading glasses on and off as I can't see the computer to well with them on, tried the bifocals but no good, they remain in my desk drawer as emergency spares.... ::) ::) To be fair, it is possible I did not give them a fair trial.........as I currently wear a ring I got some years ago for Christmas but felt it was to big and bulky, after rediscovering this year I persevered and got used to it, in fact I soon miss it if I take it off to wash the dishes...... :D :D :D

Pardon!!! Speak up, I can't hear you at the back! ::) ;) :)
-
Specsavers Chris, but then I would say that wouldn't I :-X ::)
Oh... And ISTR a modicum of ssip taking when I first appeared in glasses :-X :-X :-X ::) ::) ::)
-
Going back to Specsavers with mine....not happy. Paid a couple of hundred quid for varifocals with the trimmings (anti-dazzle)
Had an eye test with Vision Express as Specsavers were so busy. After escaping from Vision Express, thats an art in itself.....took the prescription to Specsavers. Very fast service....but I cannot get on with them....either the prescription is wrong or the glasses are. Focus is out all over. Soon as we get to Caravan on the 29th, I am of into Poole to get it sorted. Getting watery eyes too. My last two pairs (from Specsavers) were brilliant.

Gawd knows buddy .... though wearing 'em when driving makes me realise the extent to which my 'distance' vision has deteriorated.
Have worn reading glasses (from Specsavers) for a few years, and they've been quite fine.
Guess that I'll persevere with the bi-focals for a while, and see how it goes.
Best of luck with yours though! ;)
-
I feel blessed, found a place locally that makes the glasses up, ended up with 3 pairs of glasses, readinf, distance and bi-focal, srewed up on the distance glasses by buying a set with broad arms on them so dont like to wear them if I am driving.
Am thing of going back for a fourth pair of bi-focals but this time for reading/computer use and then distance as the bi-focal. Well chuffed with them so far. :y

Same here .... though the reading glasses that I got from Specsavers afforded me excellent vision when at the computer.

My problem is reading from notes or text, as in books etc and then inserting on the computer, I can set up one, distance wise for optimum view, but not both..... ::) ::) ::)

It doesn't seem that long ago that I was doing a high pitched whistle to make my Nan think that her hearing aid had gone off frequency. ;D ;D (You've got to be old enough to appreciate this humour). ;D
My standard kit for future forum meets as shown below:

Be careful with the glasses as you can start fires with them.......allegedly. ;) ;) ;D ;D

Chucked the bi-focals in at the opticians, and now got one pair of 'reading' glasses and one pair of 'distance' jobbies.
Finding the latter very good whilst driving .... at last! 8)

but you then find yourself looking over/under your distance glasses to see the dash ............ Well I do ;)
-
I dont think that is overpriced - as you know it all depends on frame and lens coating etc.. I just ordered a pair of spectacles and sunglasse and they were that much each after some hardcore haggling! P.S. From Eyesite in Reading - good service but not cheap.
-
Paid £175 for two pairs in the end. Specsavers.
One pair for normal use.
Another for reading.
Only they seem to have got a measurement wrong with the vision centre. Another appointment on Monday. Sigh...
-
I went to specsavers about 3years ago, when i was struggling to read in poor light.
I chose specsavers, because at the time they were doing free eyetests for cab drivers.
Paid about £35ish for frames and lenses.
My eyesight seems to vary tho.....ie first thing this morning i was reading this site no problem, now however ive just put my glasses on...i think it has something to do with my blood sugar level... :-\
-
Sounds like eye strain to me, no?

So do I, come to think of it :o

I'm diabetic, type b. I have been told it effects your eyesight, so i guess its the blood sugar level doing it.
I'm waiting for my yearly appointment to have my eyes scanned, to check no damage is being done to my eyesight, should have been done 3 months ago.....but since i had my last one (done by the NHS) the procedure has been outsourced to Virgin Health......so i wont hold my breath ::)
-
Ah yes, Virgin healthcare. How are you finding that? Wasnt there someone here who said privatising the NHS was the way forward. Still, at least appointments are much quicker than the terrible old NHS.
