A compact ball joint splitter like this  http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Mercedes-Ball-Joint-Separator-Remover-Tool-1257-/370723356741?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item5650d58045&vxp=mtr  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Mercedes-Ball-Joint-Separator-Remover-Tool-1257-/370723356741?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item5650d58045&vxp=mtr)

Then undo the nut holding the idler to its shaft, and tap the idler on both sides simultaneously with a pair of hammers :y

 Should just drop off :y

				Jack, spanner, air hammer. :)

				Thanks, guys!
Nice people live in Great Britain! :y
Worst american forums are Corvette and Harley. Don't buy them! ;D

just one medium-sized hbammer usually all that's required.

you're after shock - the "ringing" vibrations inside the idler casting are what separates the taper.
