Chinese lanterns, there were hundreds in the sky's last night.
-
Yup there were loads last night

My cousin had some at her wedding a couple of years back and it made the papers. UFO invasion, apparently. Not sure what that says about the people of Kidderminster. :-X
They worked it out in the end. :D http://www.kidderminstershuttle.co.uk/news/3546833.print/ (http://www.kidderminstershuttle.co.uk/news/3546833.print/)

There were alot over our way too. Dangerous bloody things, last year one came down in a friends garden conifer hedge setting it on fire and the fence which spread to two chicken coops containing rare breed chicken and duck breeding stock, not nice :(
-
Does seem daft, sending fires, uncontrolled, into the air....
-
Yeah I've been to a shed fire caused by one of these landing. They're dangerous to animals too, (the metal frame), and are mistaken for flares.
-
Yep, they're a fire hazard, the frames can be dangerous to animals and they are just general litter when they land! Ban them!! >:(
-
Although the usual let off of fireworks by the 'tards who do not know when November is must have been less this year, as it didn't wake me. Mind you, I'd sneeked one of my pills earlier...
Reminds me, must plug the phones back in.

First time I ever saw one was in France, about 4 years ago.
Some crazy Brits. were letting them off on a camp site, they all drifted out to sea.
-
First lit one about 10yrs ago, for my niece. Last one I ever lit as well, as I was expecting it to go in the air a bit, then come down nearby.
To say I was shocked is an understatement...
-
I remember making one about 30 years ago :o
They are mentioned in one of the Roald Dahl books - Danny The Champion of The World I think
Worked OK, unlike the sleeping tablets in raisins to catch pheasants.
(Turns out, grain soaked in vodka works better ;D )

My dear wife is quite pleased to read that she is not the only retard who thought we were being invaded. I shall have to think of another tease for new years eve next year. ;D
