Before anyone takes the hump with the following then perhaps they should first think about the previous teaching experiences and employment of the writer, his previous work colleagues and whose relations are still within the same profession but hold an opposite view to the majority of those they work alongside. We always have put the needs of the children - the pupils, FIRST.
??? I just knew it had to come! Watching the news this morning it has transpired that via a survey of teachers that their moral is again very low. Guess what will inevitably come next...obviously they will strike again for better conditions, less work, more holidays, more perks etc whilst all the while insisting that any actions taken by them will not affect the education of our children ::) If that is what they beileve then it is obvious that they are in the wrong profession if they cannopt understand that any strike action by them WILL damage the education of their pupils with whom they were charged by parents and by the government (of whatever flavour) to provide a high standard of education to our children.
I suggest that if their moral is so low and that they are so unhappy then perhaps they ought to go find a different job! Oh! I forgot...there is not another job that affords them the same level of paid time off and power. At the end of the day no-one forces them to work the supposed many unpaid excess hours they do (according to them) do they? A salary in my day, and still does, meant that you were paid for your experience, skill and work, not by the hour.
If teachers are so called professionals then it is high time they acted like true professionals and not in the selfish, self-centred way they do.
Perhaps the truer picture is that they do not like the idea of having to work for a living because it is too much of an inconvenience for them?
A strike will only serve to prove that the above was all correct and bang on the mark! ;)
Why are so many children leaving school without having received a decent education? Don't blame it on the kids either because the teachers are the adults and it is they who had the rules re-written to make their own lives easier.
Time for a drastic change so teachers are made to come to the standard of teaching our children have the lawful right to, and that we as parents have the right to expect!
I now wait for the usual wafflling excuses that will as usual bear no truth or reason.

I've just seen that report. No mention of strikes or, indeed, any industrial action at all. But I have learned to take your baseless rants with a large pinch of salt.
-
I could think of a few of my teachers that damaged the education of their pupils just by turning up for work! They knew their subjects, but couldn't teach to save their life!

Another depressed sole. Sorry Bio, but pull yourself together man!

Bionic I think your post voices the truth..
Communities grow up their children under their hands and in relatively good condition and far from realities..
We buy them everything as much as we can.. and when the day comes we expect them to deal with realities..
Thats wrong.. like many other things.. besides the education that we give them never prepares them for future..
I have spent nearly 20 years of my life under education and sadly I can say that even the technology given in universities is outdated..
Besides the in this system all those tv shows, serials , adverts, films are even programmed to make the people demand more , buy more so they raise the level of expectations for life.. And it be will unusual to expect that a young brain wont be effected from all those..
Very simple example , I see samsung note 2 in adverts and I want one.. Game consoles, I dont have.. but stil I want one.. And I'm 46 ;D and many other things..
besides, those children grown up with tv and game culture being far from books dont have the level of information thats is required to plan their future.. So the current situation is no surprise..
-
And one more point, I dont think todays adults, grown ups can understand the childrens situation..
We grow up under very different conditions.. When I was a children there was no internet, no computers around and only one tv channel ;D And I spend most of time playing in the street with marbles, frogs, turtles and on fruit trees ;D

I worked at the school I was taught in over several years. I've seen the staff change from a group of people whose, in the majority, vocation was teaching. They had an infectious enthusiasm for their subjects, and regularly went beyond their hours and job specification to invest in the pupils whose education was entrusted to them. That changed to a majority of staff who wanted the 9-4 job, excellent holidays and could often beat the pupils out the gates when the bell went. Yes, they still had marking and work to do, but their commitment seemed to end at that. Some of that, in my opinion, was due to the Health and Safety brigade requiring excessive risk assessments, and making it more and more difficult to do anything beyond stand in front of a 'chalk' board (not allowed blackboards now, - are you allowed whiteboards).

My son's head of year was like that. If you ever wanted to see her about a problem, she'd always complain that she too had a family ....... to which my answer was - don't be head of year. She didn't like that! :-X

Just to put this in some perspective: There are hundreds of thousands of teachers in the UK, 800 replied to this survey, which was carried out by the most militant union.

It is still a blackboard in my book always was always will be, I wear black shoes, I drink black coffee, I have a black keyboards etc. Don't give in to the idiotic PC brigade :y :y

There are no blackboards. There are interactive white boards (Smartboards)

Yep, more's the pity. No more taping centre folds from porn mags to the back of the roller blackboard so when the teacher rolls it over... :-X

When the blackboard duster scored a direct hit, a cloud of chalk dust would rise upwards from the targets cranium. Looked like their head had exploded. ;D

Yes, and it hurt like buggery if it caught you full in the face. Those were the days. ;D
Some teachers were nice though......occasionally they'd let me stand in the corner and wear a tall pointy hat with a large "D" on it. That made me feel very special. ;)
-
Never wore a dunces hat but to have stand outside 'darkies' office for the cane was quite regular :o The duster was generally used on the back of my fingers and the old slipper on the backside :-X
::) There's that word rant again given as some sort of response. Meaningless to me because it has nothing to offer as a positive suggestion to resolve the real and present problems we all are facing. If 'rant' is all then the vocabulary available appears to be in short supply. Have read at what Cem says....he is much nearer the mark of the concerns we all should show. Too many are just simply unwilling to grasp the nettle and fight through the necessary actions to resolve the ills of this country. That is the only way the youth of this country will ever come to terms with itself and gain self respect and consideration for others.
