Title: Vauxhall Omega B. UK launch date ...........
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 06 January 2013, 17:54:23
I've been able to determine that the Omega was "press released" on the 16th December 1993. But when did UK deliveries actually start? In those days there was usually a few months between launch and delivery.

I've found an old picture of my L reg one which was taken in the summer of 1994 and recall it being very soon after the car went on sale. DVLA shows the car was registered in May 1994 and is still registered nearly 19 years on!

lol when on the auctions, we had to go and pick up the ex traffic cars from police garages all over the country, they were running Omega,s alongside the Senators for a year, virtually every garage we visited to collect when walking in the workshop,on the ramps were L plated Omega,s being worked on by the technicians who were all Moaning how difficult it was to work on them and how they had only done 5000miles and all had problems with the exhaust manifolds leaking ::)
they got the first Omega,s for testing purposes in july 93, :y   vauxhall used them as test mules for development in the real world of police driving then, they did get most ofl the early bugs sorted by the M plate version, the drivers did not like them and most asked to be given the old senators for motorway duties!!

I recall there being 3 at the dealership I was working at one xmas, they were certainly L plate.

One was a 2.5 V6 CDx, one a 2.5 TD Auto CD and the other a 4 pot estate.

The TD went onto the hire fleet at the time.

All three were sent to have the caster setup on them as this was a fatory issue at the time.

Hahah. This is a forum of information, and I saw that this question didn't seem to get answered -  so for future generations, after the Final World War once the cockroaches have taken over, they will at least know of the Humans, that the Vauxhall Omega was first being registered in May 1994  :D  ;D

IIRC Vauxhall sent a police-spec demo to every force in the country, so a lot of M----NP cars were out there too. Whatever date that was...
Much like Volvo did with the 850 T5... but without a cheeky remap ;)
