Just noticed my two front tyre's have started cracking around the rim more a less all the way around and pressure dropped to 22psi.. So i'm looking for x2 new budget tyre's that would be compatible with the Omega (for the front not rear) is there any decent Online places or can anyone recommend someone like ATS, Quick Fit, etc That anyone can recommend ?
Thanks in advance :)

I'd vote for them too as a budget tyre :y

Or give Taxi Als Runway Enduros a go,in fairness they are ok just I've no experience of them on an Omega :y

Well i've been calling around and have had prices from £70-£140 each the cheapest being a make called Event or something £74 fitted, balanced etc. .. I've found somewhere that would fit tyres that's if I was to buy from RobG's suggestion for £30 for x2 including balancing etc. Ideally i dont want to pay more than £150 in total but still get some decent tyres out of it.

£30 per tyre just for fitting/Balancing and disposal :o :o :o :o At least Dick Turpin wore a mask :-X :-X
Event tyres are not very good, especially at that price. Why not try blackcircles/etyres/camskill etc?
I normally find that smaller, independent garages that fit tyres are more competitive ;)

When looking at Winter Tyres, I was quoted £40 fitted & balanced for 4 , if I supplied the tyres.

for x2 ... Yea been looking up Event tyres not worth the bother.. 2 x Accelera Alphas delivered @ £120, plus all in fitting for around £20-25, total less than £150. Alphas are a very good "budget" tyre - and are suited to Omegas :y No brainer mate in view of other prices you have - just need to find someone sensible/realistically priced to fit

similar performance to kumho ku31 I'd say. Very good for the money. Not a premium tyre, but defo a midrange tyre for budget money. :y

For me Pirelli Rosso 94Y tyres. :y :y

Won't be far off without fitting ;)
-
Although if you are after budget tyres, I guess you want plastic ones. Thus the TT's aren't suitable ;D
-
My current two front tyres are branded "Falken" which came with the Elite alloys i bought last summer have lasted well enough I suppose.... I'm just not sure how long it's worth chancing with the knowledge i now have of their potential condition even though it could well just be surface cracks... Considering the Omega's weight, most of our UK road's surface conditions and the way the Omega feels slower than you're actually going, I wouldn't want a blow out. I'll try and get some pictures of the cracks if the weather permits..

I don't want s* ::) *t tyres but at the moment my budget is tight :-\
Only just bought £148 worth of tax a few days ago.

Just double checked and blackcircles have got the Runways for £68.34 each. That's 4 quid less than the Acceleras for a better tyre :y
Not much to decide ::)

Yep, I think I'd recommend them. They were shaping up pretty well before the exhaust fell apart. ::)
-
Looks like Runways it is then... So would you recommend blackcircles website to book and get fitted at one of their recommend garages or just buy the tyres from them ?
-
Find one of their places close to you and go fitted, that way there's no extras :y
Ps have voted, obviously ::) they suit 99% of peoples requirements, and for the money I very much doubt that they can be beaten :y
-
Why is the voting for your particular tyres so slow? :o :o :o
Come on chaps I am interested to see the results! :D :D ;)
-
Calm down Lizzie, we've until July :y
-
Can we have an option for "the correct size, legal, and a max of £20 per corner" ? ;D
-
I'll be sticking a set on next week in 225/55/R16 so will be able to compare directly with Alpha's in the same size :y :y

I know, but that may be too late for me.......you never know when the grim reaper is coming at our age! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
-
I voted Runway as I have used them and they are ok,not tried tothers :y,currently running a new set of Maxxis Victra z4s's on the Signum and well pleased with them at the moment but still early days, feels very planted though :y
-
To add, whilst I think they are very well suited to the Omega, I can't vouch for them elsewhere. :y
But I suspect the purpose of the poll is to establish reliable tyres for the Omega ::)
-
These two tyres I'm after will be for the front, But these runway's can't be any worse than these cracked tyres currently fitted.

I'm sure they will be good enough for a 2.2i, Hopefully they will last a decent amount of miles is my only concern, Have found one garage on their website classed as a "Indipendant Garage" 4/5 star rating other garages are too far. I presume Balancing, Fitting, New Valve etc are included ?

Sure I had a pair of Alphas on the front on one of the calibration runs at yours :-\

FITTED means exactly what it says on the tin, ie fitted :-X
-
I used Accelera's on my 2.9 scorpio and found them very good, My mother had runways on her fiesta but will never buy them again as they are noisy and didn't care much for grip either
-
Get the Accelera's, they're most definitely the 'best' budget tyre out there.
-
I've used Acceleras on both the old Elite saloon and Estate and have been well pleased - good handling (progressive in wet if pressing on) and sensibly priced. Also had a set of Enduros on the Elite saloon - slightly more expensive but no discernible difference in normal driving - a bit more "twitchy" when pressing on in the wet compared to the Acceleras.
HTH ;)
-

I will give it a few more days before deciding on a brand.. I'm unfamiliar with both brands and will see how the poll pans out and any more comments that will help in making my final decision will be considered. At the moment i'm 50/50 on both types of tyres.. :-\
-
Poll is running until July ::)
-
ive got avons on the 3.2 and had mohawks on the 3.0.
3.0 was a lot more fun to drive and when it was raining you it would let you know before it wanted to swop ends, the 3.2 seems to hang on then just goes :o
-
Worth a read maybe.
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/
Got some nexen 6000 s on order myself.
(put the link in helps)
-
Interesting reading indeed :y
I still stand by my recommendation, that they are a suitable tyre for the Omega, based on about 100,000 miles hard experience.
Having read through the reviews of the Runway 916s, I would note that most of the people who had issues were either driving front wheel drive cars, or modern turbodiesels. They also seemed to be expecting everything for nothing.
The favourable reviews were balanced and constructive, and therefore alot more informative than some of the "These are crap" ones.
-
Having just replaced Nexen 6000s with Runway Enduros I'd go for the Enduros every time. :-\
-
Got Nexen N6000s on the 3.2, reasonable tyre. Does job, that's about it!

Indeed, all things are relative. If comparing these to a premium tyre, your going to be upset. That eejit that put them in his Beemer expecting premium tyre performance for instance.
Especially given Runway are priced firmly in the budget section.
But there's thing. A budget tyre with mid range tyre performance is not to be sniffed at.
Would I fit them? No! But if I was skint, and following the "fit the best tyres you can afford" rule... Then I'd fit them over ku31, on grounds of cost, for similar
performance.
BMW drivers. ...honestly! (leaves room shaking head)
-

Even from the passenger seat, I could feel the tyres scrabbling for lateral grip... ...and that was with you driving :o
Nexen 6000, I'd say a good budget tyre at a mid range tyre price :'(
Acclera Alpha, a budget tyre in every sense, base on the Omegas I've driven with it. OK in the dry, slippery in the wet.
KU31 I was impressed with, although have since jumped from budget to mid-range (and KU31 not available in useful sizes now). Its downside is no feedback - they hang on really well, wet or dry, but give no indication of when they will kill you.
Nexen CP641 - great budget tyre in dry, snow, and light wet. As soon as the roads have standing water, or very heavy rain, they will kill you. Good life as well.
Autogrip FS10x (5?) - poor in the dry, lethal in the wet. I really do mean lethal. Very, very dangerous.
-
Poll is running until July ::)
Aye i just picked a random date :-X ;D
-
Either Acceleras or Enduros will be ok on a 4 pot mate ;)
-
These sound like good tyres just a shame they would work out at £246 fitted for two :(

You'd think so from the reviews but I've not had any good experiences with Michelins ::)

Best extend the voting dead line to august.
The web site missed a trick by not insisting on specifying what vehicle the tyres were fitted to.
Shame theres not a brand called placebo. One priced at £50, the other at £150.

If you have just paid a small fortune for tyres which possibly dont suit the car, are you really (a man thing)going to eat humble pie and admit you have bought some lemons. Where as if you had paid a lower price..

Ah I see, well, I guess that depends if the owner understands the problem. It's a big trap to fall into. I spent a good while thinking if a tyre is bad, it's bad. That's it. Ie all Falkens are bad, purely by brand name. I'm beginning to think they might suit a small wwd shit box with rock hard suspension and harsh unforgiving chassis. But that's without fully understanding the problem.
It certainly looks like I bought the wrong tyres on the front of mine, sc3 ao1 tramlining all over the place, where as sc3 mo where fine. ....ffs. :(
Then on the other hand there's certainly some obvious traits among manufacturers.
Dunlops have a few models that give an exceptionally tight accurate ride without being harsh on the omega. They seem to have addressed the noise level they where renound for too.
Michelin seem to think all car owners want massive mileage at the expense of lateral grip.
Bridgestone think all suspension should be rigid. (Completely unfair comment as I've only sampled one of their tyres)
Continental have blown all those theory's out of he water as they have two sc3 sub models that behave completely differently.

Dammed lies and statistics ::)
The better rated tyres have been rated over millions of miles, against the lesser rated ones.
Therefore 20 (200k) poor reviews of the 'preferred Michelin tyres (1.5million) will have a lot less effect than 20 (200k) poor reviews of say the Runways (600k) :-\
Be interesting to see how they look tomorrow :-X

I'm big enough.
SC5s are lemons.
But maybe my idea of a bad tyre is different to other peoples?

Indeed... There are plenty of people who like Michelin's but you and I have similar views, especially on wallowy Elite suspension ::)

Confused.com is just how I feel about tyres :o I obviously want the best tyres possible but funds at the moment are tight, I couldn't justify more than say £170max for two tyres fitted, balanced etc

Im running Matadors on Mine who are now owned by Continental so the quality of the tyre is much better but they are low - Middle of the road tyre. but they handle superb and hardly any tyre noise :y :y :y
