About 18 months ago got £225 for an Omega in driveable condition with quite a few bits missing. If they had to collect it would have been £200.

I drove it in removed battery and walked into office and handed over V5. 10 minutes later walked out with cheque for £225. They did not even inspect car.

Normally they pay an mount per tonne. The price is dependant on what the price of scrap steel etc.happens to be that week.
The first one you spoke to is definitely taking the pizz,I suspect he smelt a newbie and pushed his luck.Happened to me the first time I sold a stripped shell. :y

So do you think ill be ok to go ahead and strip the car and still get some money for the shell , the last 2 i rang quoted per tonne  :-\
Like you say alb the first one i smelt a rat , he wanted the whole car and running . I know the place i rang and have been there .. they sell cars that just come in with mot so guess he was looking to sell on  :(

No problem. As said removed battery at breakers yard as it was only 2 months old. I removed rear parcel shelf and electric blind. Rear seat was removed also for the parcel shelf and we had another use for that. Most switches from the dash where removed. Lights from the the boot lid where removed. Rear lights on the wings stayed.
Few other minor bits and pieces. I did not do a major break on the car as it appeared no one really wanted anything from it, even though it had a nearly new engine in it with less than 20k miles on it, that was a real shocker to me.
We had the advantage of the car still being MOTed, taxed and insured. Oh yes stuck some old wheels on it.

Good luck with yours.

So on reflection it seems that its best to be able to drive the car down to the breakers  :( I was planning on stripping the car on the drive over a few weeks and letting them have whats left . Dont know what to do for the best result . As said i dont want to be stuck with a half stripped car breakers wont take .

Any goos scrappy will collect a non runner in return for giving a slightly lower per tonne rate for it.
Alternatively you can strip some good bits to leave it rolling and then tow it in to get the full price on the remains.  Even then, it's not unusual to see people tow in a car then remove the wheels to be kept.

I got £150 for the last stripped one I took in about 2 months ago. Scrap prices has dropped a lot over the last 12 months. I've got a collection of cats here waiting to go to EMR in Manchester but they've also dropped in price so waiting to collect a few more to make it worth my while :(

Worst case, carefully cut the rear quarters off, assuming they're ok, along with the other panels, and then chop the rest into little bits, and pop it out with the recycling :y

Funny you should say that , i was thinking similar . There's a shop that takes your scrap items and pays for it ... going to take a lot of sawing up  ;D

Off to look at the new car  :-X

Got anyone near you who does banger racing? If its still a runner but has all its jewellry and trinkets stripped off, so to speak, they would love it as they dont have to strip and dispose/dump the interior, glass lights etc. just a thought.

Last time I scrapped a shell I was just happy to find someone who'd come and remove a car with no wheels (or any other running gear) and let me keep the V5 (needed to register the kit car the bits go into).. I got nothing for the shell but it was collected for free.

Of course it looked like this at the time (notice it stops about 3' short of where it should at the front & rear .. 2woody's plasma cutter did that! ;D)

Last car I took into the scrappy was an astra mk3, had half an omega engine and a load more scrap, stripped fully and got £110 and some copper. I usually hold a car for 6 months and full it with metal, basically a rolling skip. Take cat, rad, battery and wheels off to take somewhere else. Best way to make money on the side. As long as you have somewhere to store it. Sine cars I get in are worth more selling complete on eBay, some I just weigh in. Just missed out on a berlingo for £150, I would have sold the engine a d filled the shell with scrap :-( shame. Just shop around
