Post by: STMO123 on 10 January 2013, 18:22:46
MPs think they deserve a 32% pay rise. What do we think?  ;D ;D

I used to know an MP personnaly. he was one of the handful of worth while ones that actually did a good job for his constituants. A rise of 3.2% would seem a bit strong at the moment though.

I think the poor souls work tirelessly for their money and deserve every penny when the rest of the UK struggle to get a rise in line with inflation, never mind anything else :y :y Obviously they need to compensate for the lost income after the clampdown on expenses too ;) ;)

They should be paid via a profit sharing bonus system..............so at the moment they owe each of us ££ thousands. :)

32% would be fine, across the board as well so expenses go up the same.

Pension to o up as well by same amount.

We need every good person we can get to steer the ship through stormy waters ahead.

If the truth is known, I bet half of them are still at it....they will find loopholes...morals does not enter the equation >:(

Remember also, MP's  pay is only part of their income.....bear in mind a lot of them are directors, etc of companies.....do after dinner speaking.

They are not hard done by, by a long score

And even after "serving" for a short time they have a fantastic pension. We need people who believe in that old fashioned concept known as public service.
We also need to stop stupid people being entitled to vote but thats a whole different conversation. ;D

We would have a much better class of competent people experienced in life if we let MPs still run their businesses or have jobs on a part time basis and be an MP at the same time. This is how it used to be. With the short hours and long holidays they have it would make very little difference in the time spent as an MP.

Since they banned MPs from having other other jobs, so we just have 'professional' politicians, we have had the Blairs, Browns, Prescotts, Balls, Millibands, Camorons, Cleggs and Osbornes of this world in Parliament and what a collective shower of brown stuff and disaster they have been.

Personally, even if you raised pay significantly I could not see things getting any better, look at EU pay scales and the clowns there!

In previous generations of landed and rich families, the fool of the family would be pointed in the direction of a career as a priest in the church. Now after an undistinguished career in ideal top management training positions such as refolding towels in Selfridges they then become a 'researcher' for a political party and climb the greasy pole.

Didn't it used to be the case that only male property owners could vote?  :-\  ::)

I reckon £65k + a second home and a very manipulable expenses scheme is pretty good for the part time job most of them do, TBH. ::)
