Title: NCDC GPS aerial connector type?
Post by: twiglet on 14 January 2013, 15:37:27
I need to buy a couple of GPS aerials for NCDC's (the 2 inch, black, square type)...

Can someone remind me what type of connector they have, and whether they are male or female, as I'll be buggered if I can remember...  ::)

An ebay link would be even better...  :y

Fairly sure there FME's.

Probably got a male and female connectors kicking around somewhere you can have James, but you need the Crimp Tool (which I have but cant afford to Post it out / needed for work).

Chris.  ;)

Edit:, Im talking about the Foot Well James is this the same?

Cheers Chris.  I'm sure they were only about a fiver on ebay last time I looked, so no worries there.  Just need to find the right one.  :y

I might ask you to make up a length of sky cable for me in the not-to-distant future though, if you have all the bits?  ;)

The aerials I'm thinking of are designed to be placed in the corner of the windscreen, and have a couple of metres of cable with a connector on the end, that plugs straight in the back of the head unit.

To go in the back of the HU then, cant remember them.

No worries, most of my stuff is 50 Ohm, but the 75 Ohm Sat stuff you dont need tools for.  :y

Was hoping you could make me up a double cable, with the connectors on, ready to run direct from the LNB to my freesat box in my garage.  It will be about a 40 metre run...

Cheers Rob, that's the kiddie!  :y

IIRC, the last one I used had 180 degree (straight) connector, so it was just a case of feeding it through the cage and then pulling it back slowly as I pushed the headunit home.  :y

SMB male IIRC

No.

Connector on the HU is MCX.
The original connector near the roof areal is fakra.

Are you sure it's not an SMB type Peter?  I've never heard of the MCX type before, although a quick ebay search showed it looks very similar to the SMB type.  :-\

Must admit SMB rings a bell now, seem to remember SNB Male for the NCDC and SMB Female for the older Phillips Carin units, did they not change something to MCX or Fakra on the later Navs for  Canbus Vectra C and Signum,s ???

Could be totally wrong as usual.

Yes James, no worries on the extension coax for your Sat, 40 meters sounds a lot me but should be OK with half decent cable and assuming the Dish alignment is doing what it says on the tin.  ;)

Yes James I am sure about it, did buy one for my self for workbench testing.
The are very similar but SMB wont fit.
