Title: Lpg injector adapters
Post by: Gaffers on 14 January 2013, 20:04:44
The good Mr Kevin Wood switched me on to a product which allowed engines like the Jag straight 6 lump to have lpg fitted without drilling the manifold.  Unfortunately the business has stopped making them due to lack on interest.  An inernet search since has found these:

eBay link (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=1f971501134048649bfbffcf2d13f9b4&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D281048721293%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AGB%3A1123)

The seller is unsure if they will fit.  Can the community help?  I doubt I will get any answer off any of the jag forums which are so slow to move I think most members are asleep under their flap-caps.

No experience obviously, but I would think they would space to injectors too far away for the standard locking mechanism to work. They must add a good 7 or 8mm to the depth of the standard injector?

...unless those horseshoe shapes in the pic take that into account?

Nice idea though. :)

It would require fabricating a bracket to allow for the fit.  My question is about the diameter and the fit of the petrol injectors, the rest I can make work :y

So we want injector diameters for a Jeeeeaaaaaag. :)

Out of interest, is drilling a problem? Is the manifold plastic, or space issues?

Teilo offered something similar, and I'm sure we said it as more of a quick fix, rather than an ideal solution

Haven't we still got a set of 6 knocking about somewhere :-\ :-\ :-\

Although I agree... Not an ideal solution as it will compromise petrol injector placement too ;)

It's Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag..... please.....

I was interested in the product as it eliminated disturbing the inlet

Do I recall correctly that they are very temperamental when disturbed? :-\ :-\ :-\

I'll have a look around and see if I still have the set that we had but I fear they were returned (eventually) :-\ ::)

.. and "disturbing the inlet" looks to be a right pain in the brown-eye!  :o

Had forgotten we had some. Will check just in case they ended up in my LPG junk box.

I'm pretty sure 14mm is the size of recess into which a standard Bosch injector fits. A couple I've got here measure about 13.5 on the injector shank. Add a bit for the O ring to sit in, and you're pretty much there so from that perspective I reckon it'll be OK unless the injectors are something exotic. It's always going to be a bit "suck it and see", though. :-\

I'm sure they came to me and I returned them to him :-\

I still think they're going to disturb the petrol flow, which matters if you are intending to use petrol at high usage ;)

If there is any shrouding of the petrol injectors I reckon it'll be at cold start and light load. There'll be too much air flow for it to make any odds at full chat.

I'd certainly give them a try before removing supercharger drive, supercharger, charge cooler, and the plethora of plumbing attached to it, which looks like it'd need an engine hoist to shift it anyway.  ;)

Ahhh... Did some muppet put all that in the way? ::) ;D

I might make a quick phone call to the fitter who did D's car tomorrow if I get a chance... I'm sure he's done a few SC Jaaaagggggs ;)

I bet a few of them have had the manifold drilled in-situ. :-X

He doesn't ;)

Plastic manifold? Which wouldn't be so bad ::)

I think he might have volunteered to take that manifold out and tap it, didn't he? ;)

I don't appear to have them.  :-\

Not worth a punt on the set you linked to? Would save a lot of aggro.

Thanks to the LPG forum I have found some that are 1/3 cheaper

Worth a punt as you say :y

It can be good (as you know) but there are too many people on there who "know best" sometimes :-X ::)
