Hi guys, I've been working for sky tv for a few years and as i use cable reels everyday to run from dish to customers room have always suffered with the dreaded cable tangle and then you have to go up and down the ladder to untangle, Does anyone know of such a device out there that eliminates this as i know there are a few engineers on this site,

Brave admitting you work for Sky on here :-X ::)
Not looked at the link but I always have the reel on an "Axel" and use something on it as a "brake" so it doesn't run free

Sounds like you being plumbed off with cheap cable, a good quality cable should pull of the drum nicely, I use a fair bit of RG213 (11mm) for Radio Comms and have to insist suppliers give me C17 Military Spec. pulls off straight, job done, although costs more, whereas the cheap stuff starts to coil itself within a few meters of being pulled.
If the cable does start to coil when pulled (Probably gonna tell you how to suck eggs now) then walk it away from your target then back again whilst gently skipping the cable in the opposite direction from its natural coil, if walking space is limited then I walk it in S shapes on the floor, again in the opposite direction of the coil before pulling it to its target. ;)

A lot of cable has now got the LSF plastic on it. Since this has been introduced, all types of cable has the tendency to snag, coil its self up etc.

The radio contest group I belong to use LDF7-50, about 2" in diameter and affectionately known as "donkey's dork". That doesn't tangle easily. ;D It's quite a spectacle watching 3 blokes trying to wrestle 100' of it across the ground and up a tower. ;D
A bit overkill for a Sky install, perhaps? ::)

Good gear that 7-50 Heliax, I use to carry a 1 foot sample of it under my Car Seat, just in case! ;)

thanks for the reply's guys, yeah a bit overkill on the cable i use, Its just that when you have to do long cable runs it tends to tangle especially when its a new drum. >:(

Should be the other way around, larger circumference on a new drum etc, it fact the bigger the drum the better for uncoiling, I take it you leave it the Vehicle overnight, try heating it by the footwell before you use it. sounds weird but a the stuffs a lot easier to work and walk with on a warm day compared to this time of year.
I do the same with PVC tape, always leave it in my trouser pocket to warm up before using it, makes it easier to slightly stretch without breaking. :y
