Although... it was "4 star". Not LRP - Real, leaded 4 star. (I could have sworn this was banned in the UK as from year 2000, I've not seen it on a garage forecourt for years :-\ )
This was a Shell Service Station on 13 January on the Dual Carriageway between Royston and Baldock, Herts/Cambs area.

And before anyone tells me off for taking the picture.. I was still inside the car with the windows up ;D

4 star :o , not seen that for donkey's years .

Was never banned, just removed from sale, theres a few Stations that sell it for Classic Cars, I believe you need a specific licence to sell it though.
My Cossie loves the stuff, or Avgas from the local Airfield. seem to remember hearing the LRP is being phased out as well now, so may see a few more 4 star Stations popping up.

At £2.10 a litre im sure it will catch on , you can sure smell the difference sitting behind a car thats running on 4 star .

Vaguely remember this from my early years of driving. Why was it phased out/banned and why so expensive?
-
It was great in the fuel protests 10 years or so ago. All garages ran out of diesel and unleaded, but I had a car that could still burn 4 star, so I just drove round in the Westfield all the time. :D

I remember some posh git filling his Jensen Interceptor up with 5 star back in the seventies. Smug bastard. ;D

Between Royston (vasey ? ) and balstock. Strange things happen in Vasey, very strange. :D

My mum's Fiat 850 Sports Coupe needed 5 star. Mind you, that was a pocket rocket for a 1l car, could keep bro's Mk1 Golf GTi honest up to legal speeds.... ....not that we ever did such races, oh no, not us.

I know that station very well ,I always thought it very isolated .
There are two large classic car storage companies close by ( I used one for some years ) and can only think that they use the station for their fuel plus you are on the road to Duxford with all the events that take place there .
Nice to see a retailer catering for a select group.
