Hi was wondering if any body knows if the 3.2 engine block and the 3.0 block are different, except the difference in cc of course.
I am thinking about trying to put my 3.0l heads and parts on a 3.2 and turning it to cable throttle instead of the rubbish fly by wire!?
Should gain a samll hike in bhp and torque i hope, not alot but also just to see if it can be done.
Or would it be possi ble to just put all my 3.0l parts on a 3.2 block?? anyone done it before??

Are you fitting the 3.2 into a 3.0 car? If so, then it'll work.
If you're trying to fit 3.0 heads to a 3.2 car & its electrickery ECU & DBW then I'd forget about it. :y

ok, so here goes.....
the difference is mainly the cylinder bore size - well that that makes a difference anyway. It would be theoretically possible for you to use a 3.2 bottom end and a 3.0 top end in order to stick with cable throttle, but its a lot of effort for very little gain. Don't forget that you will need to have the fuel injection re-mapped because your fuel map will be way off, both because you have a different capacity and because the compression ratio will be different.
I can't actually see what's good about cable throttle that makes it worth sticking with over that much hassle.

I thought it was just in the heads :-\ :-\

Darth Loo-knee did a project similar to this a couple of years back, but I cant remember the details tbh.

Drive by wire throttle is so good on the Omega I'd venture to suggest it's as reliable, if not better, than a cable. Now, if it were a Volvo. :-X

Yes I think it was a case of a 3.0 litre car with knackered motor, and only having a 3.2 lump available. The extent of the transplant meant keeping everything from the cam covers up including manifolds for egr etc with the car, and fitting everything from the heads down from the 3.2, if that makes sense...?
Do irc? it didn't involve and differences in the block as such? :-\
I guess there may be some confusion later with cam belt kits and getting the correct tensioner backing plate to fit the head, as there defo two sorts on a 3.2, but other than that...

A bloke at work recently bought a Volvo (no idea which). Had DBW problems, supplying garage gave him A N Other electric throttle, it was a little better but also had problems. In the end, the garage paid for a new throttle assembly ....... sorted! The car was only about £1500 but the throttle was £hundreds ???

I think you're more or less correct ..... but the base block was a 2.6 :-\

Is this the t5 range of engines? Various cc with or without turbo (?) but all with the same useless throttle body? As on the outlaws old c70?
It's been on watchdog and all sorts, warranty covered in the states but not in the uk. Dealers usually offer the TB at "good will" price of circa £300 fitted and programmed. It can NOT be re manned.
Utter rubbish.

Could well have been :-\

Yep... And it went well too :y

I would've thought that a late 3.0 could be fitted as a direct replacement, using the 3.2 throttle body and all the wiring, including the coil packs :-/
Needs to be LATE 3.0, otherwise it won't have the threads for the coil pack bolts :y
-
LooKnee fitted a 3.0 engine into a 2.6 (using the 2.6 electronics, exhaust manifolds and plenum). It went well and the fuel injection system adjusted the fueling automaticaly via block learns with no issues.
All heads post 1998 have the extra web with tapped holes for the coil packs (as this is when the States started to use the engines and they had coil per plug)

I knew a 2.6 was in there somewhere ;D
