7-10c forcast for sat-sun
Might not happen of course, too far away to be accurate IMO. And the weather may turn again after true enough. But two week cycles of high or low do seem to dictate a change.
Could be the start of summer.... :-X ;)
-
:-X :-X :-X :-X
Yeah , i think that Cem bloke could do with some of our snow , he's been hogging the heat for too long now ;D
-
Time to change back to summer tyres then :-X ::) :D

Time to change back to summer tyres then :-X ::) :D
Interesting isn't it? ::)
I do wonder though, when did the temp drop low enough that you had to remove your summer tyres and fit your "winter tyres" LD? ::) :-X
Now wait.... this is a tentative subject for some here so lets be reallly generous.... I mean we could be realistic and say it was a week ago, so that would be two weeks obviously "if" the forecast is correct.... But lets be generous, lets say it was 3 weeks ago, when the temp dropped into winter tyre range. ... No lets say 4 weeks shall we? , because it really was 13c just after Christmas, but I can't be sure exactly when. (Not to the the nearest second anyway ;D )
So if the above is ok with.... :-X everyone :-X ...
The temp was 13c 4 weeks ago here. Certainly considerably above 7c. This means, I'm told, that summer tyres MUST be fitted. It was then hovering around zero on average for a while during the day, this means winter tyres MUST be fitted, I'm told. ... and its due to go back up to the same temps it was before. Well above 7c, again, being generous.
So be sure to "change your tyres" back to summer tyres after only 4weeks though LD :D (actually only 1 week ago, but lets not be picky) because everyone you drive within 10metres of will fall down dead due to your irresponsible behaviour if you don't. ::) .....Fe@kin SIGH...... ::)
So would you mind reminding us all Lazydocker....what where the temps like where you where in the uk? :)
-

No need ::) Those tyres work just as well when the temperature is 15° and drizzling in the summer :y
-
yesterday it was sunny and 16 celcius.. today 8-10 celcius rainy.. and I'm hammering the cars with winter tyres as usual.. ;D both cars will stay in winter tyres until march 15.. omega a little longer as it will be in the paint shop for a long time :(

I sense another one of 'those' tyre threads coming on..... ::)
I luuuuuuuuuuuuv my winter tyres on my Renault Trafic van, especially when towing a trailer. You know there was a day before Christmas, I changed my tyres 3 times in one day - the temperature that day really did vary - 5 deg in the AM, 15 deg in the PM and 5 deg again the the late PM. ;)
I even now carry the other set around with me in the back of the van - ya know, just in case. ;)
-
I may have mentioned this before, but my sc3 are absolutely terrible in snow. Really are bad. ::)

SC5s aren't too bad. Not great, but usable. Apart from they dive side to side like a part worn Falken.

I've said publically before, Winter Tyres are not a magic solution. Oh, gayboy is going to have a field day ;D

Studded tyres on ice,now they are a magic solution...............until you come across a road with no snow or ice. ;D

Oh Contraire, I have to disagree.. :)
Back in the early 80's I had a Ford Escort Mk3 1.6 FWD (I also had a wide rage of other cars including Vx) and I had a set of studded tyres fitted to the front wheels. As a young lad I loved the dry days, an easy car to spin the wheel and I could make sparks.... ;D ;D ;D

Counter productive I think Pete. Nobody else would have made it, by all accounts. ;D

Well...all I can say is I have been driving since 1964, with a varying range of cars from an Austin A30 through to the Omega. In those days we had snow, not this puny few day stuff that some years decide to fall. It stayed on the road for weeks. We walked to school, and work if near enough. Never had a winter tyre in my life. Neither have millions and millions of others.
There are so many views about winter tyres on here...swap them, leave them on, don't leave them on, only fit at this or that temperature....I am more than confused ???
I am totally with TB on this....its no magic cure. The problem lies with the pratt behind the wheel!!!!!!!
Roll on a few days and winter tyres will be confined to Room 101 :y

Absolutey Terbs. :y

Mel wants a long weekend from the 1st to the 4th here

Not sure the Omega will make it up there so i'm waiting until the last minute to book it so I don't waste my money ::)

It's nice there... Not stayed but stopped in as my mum lives in Richmond :y
They do quite a good job of keeping the main roads clear in towns up there but the Dale roads can be a bit dodgy

Terbert, there are many occasions that even Kimi or Schumi wont change anything with those summer wheels..
those tyres are made and sold for a reason... you accept it or not..

Not! ;)

Yep... I know there's been a fair dumping up there in the last week ::)

Cem.....got to agree with Chris on that.
Sorry mate....I cannot see the point in the UK. What snowfall we have had (and I live on top of the Chiltern Hills) this year is exceptional. Normally the main roads are clear within 48hrs, usually less.
Maybe other areas are different :-\
I have done without them for 48 years...I have driven on ice, driven through deep snow....part of life :y Driven to work in deep snow, driven back home on clear roads.
Question.....if, as stated by one poster, winter tyres can remain on all year....why is there a summer tyre. Surely the winter tyre would be better all round grip. ???
Especially with all the rain we seem to get over here.
Not being confrontational, Cem.....just a point of view :y

I think the question is "would winters provide better grip", rather than "are they essential". Or at least, thays the way I see it.
Certainly the only (unprovoked) problem I've had this winter, winters wouldn't have helped.

I still can't comment for certain, having not had winter tyres in the winter ::), but I'm in the same boat apart from not getting stuck ;) I did have some minor issues that the TC took care of when I had those crappy, end of life Autogrip's on the back but since fitting the Enduro's (which are M + S Rated incidentally) it has been very sure footed :y Until I start playing :-X ::)
