Ok, I'm a bit confused and need a bit of clarification please chaps.

I'm looking at getting some spare steelies for the Mondeo and have noticed that the same size wheel appears to be fitted with different sized tyres on some cars:

 16"  x 6.5 fitted with:

 205 / 55 / R16

 or

 215 / 55 / R16

Is this correct, or have I missed something here?

 Thanks

different spec cars use different widths, look in handbook or type in details into a tyre site and see what should be fitted :y

 Width(mm)
-
Only 10mm differance in width, so no problem on the same size rim.

Yep, understand that - but thats the width of the tyre isn't it? The width of the wheel is 6.5" in each case - that's why i'm confused .......

Only 10mm. If it was 20mm then an extra half inch width on the rim.

Its a measurement which starts from the rim, up the wall of the tyre, across the width of the tyre and then down the opposite wall to the rim again.

-
215 tyre width 55 is 55% of tyre width is the sidewall and 16 inch wheel if that makes sense

Sorry but NO the 205/215 measurment is the section width of the tyre then the 55 is what percentage of the first figure the hight of the sidewall
