I've had a letter from BT offering what seems to be a really remarkable deal on broadband. £5.25 pm, 16Mb speed, 10Gb pm, 18 month contract, includes router, evening/weekend calls.
Anyone out there with BT ?
P2P throttling ?
Traffic management ?
Any serious minus points ?
I'm really tempted

I already pay them line rental for the phone,so presumably thats already sorted ? :-\

I think mine costs a little more than that, not sure without checking, though includes line rental.... :y :y
We had a really crappy service till they updated, not sure we get the full speed but a heck of an improvement and according to Middle Vamps gaming online via 'whatever' is working well, never had a problem with it at all and the install was done quickly and tidily..... :y :y

Yeah, no problems here, but I, too, have infinity...£18 plus rental, 40mb, receiving 35mb due to how close I am to the exchange, with 40gb d/l limit.

Yes I have infinity, and line rental and calls with BT. We pay about £100 to £120 every quarter dependingon calls made. We have unlimited downloads and unlimited local free calls or something like that.
It is a bit more expensive, but we don't have the service dropping in and out all the time and the router thingy does not require multiple reboots per month. In fact since having it I have only had to turn it off once due to some electrical work.
Overall I am quite impressed, and it is not because I have a nephew who works for BT ::)

Sorry people, this deal IS NOT for Infinity. It's just normal broadband on normal phone line I'm interested in. I just don't need fibre optic.

How long is the £5.25 for. Normally, you have an 18 month contract, but the £5.25 changes up to about £14 after 3 months. Check the small print.
If it stays at 5.25, then is seems a good deal, as against what I was paying BT for 8mb broadband...£20 :y
Which is why I could not understand why they offered me infinity at 40mb for less than I was paying for 8mb (including free setup and hubs etc) ???

Line rental £15.45 for 12 months .. no indication of what line rental will be for the next 6 months, and they nicely run the contracts for different times, so you are always part way through one when the other expires .....
"terms apply" ... but this is "supposed" to be the legal bit ... so the implication is there are other "hidden" terms they haven't told you about ...... yet ... :(

I have standard BT Broadband with Homehub + BT Vision and I have had no problems at all with the speed of any of it.
They keep trying to get me to upgrade to Affinity, but I just do not see the point for me as downloading speeds are excellent! :y :y

Virtually all ISPs use traffic shaping.
Some of the larger ISPs in the UK have a court order against them to block certain sites who's only purpose is to promote illegal file sharing - which cannot be discussed here, as would fall foul of our guidelines.

Be careful of the 10gb per month limit - they don't tell you your over it and charge a fortune. We are about to switch to sky from BT as we have been getting broadband bills of £300 per qtr! we only use the net for gaming and browsing and I was shocked to see we were using around 45Gb per month.

Exactly! Weve recently moved and whereas before we were with Virgin (who I found very good) where we are now its either sky or BT as there's no cable. Weve halved the price nearly that we were paying for the virgin package with their vision package and download time is fine but our lad, who has aspergers, spends an awful lot of time on his laptop and the 10gb per month limit is nowhere near enough it turns out. Fair enough, when it went over the first month they waived the extra cost but at a charge of £5 /mth for every extra 10gb used each month this cost will ramp up considerably so we'll see what BT can offer when the better half speaks to them tommorrow

I should explain that I have 3 children between 8 and 15 who all have Wii, Xbox and PS3 as wel as Kindles, Ipods, Ipads and of course Iphones so its isn't me gaming online - I am the mug who is out working to pay for all the above :)
