Title: Social dilemma
Post by: jereboam on 05 May 2008, 17:23:57
My wife and I have been invited to a Barn Dance.  Not, I hasten to add, by anyone who I would number among my friends.

My wife wants to go - she thinks it will be "great fun", whereas my initial reaction was that I would rather shoot my foot off.  Perhaps that's a bit extreme.

But I have to say that the only things I can think of that I would less like to do than go to a Barn Dance are things that are not usually categorised as "for enjoyment", mostly involving the participation of a medical professional.

How do I get out of this?

Do it, then you have a "today, we do something I like" card!  :y

At least thats how it works with SWMBO  ;)

The last time this happened, I was taken by complete surprise.  We went to my niece's wedding in a castle in Scotland.  After the meal, the room was cleared for "Scottish Country Dancing".

I'm not kidding, I've seen gentler rugby internationals.  Fortunately, my older son was with us, and he very bravely danced with his mother.  My younger son, a lad wise beyond his years, adjourned with me to the bar.  Unfortunately, this being a Scottish wedding, there was no free bar.  A very expensive evening :'(

Worse still, the other niece is getting married (to a piper, no less) next month.  How long does it take to get a shotgun licence?

Do you have to go, can she not go on her own, they are her friends after all. :)
Iv'e had a couple off weekends off from the caravan, swmbo simply takes the kids and goes, as long as she has someone to sit in the club with she is quite happy. :y

Simply put, one ex had no hobbies & resented me Banger Racing. Another ex thought Banger racing was fun & got involved in the meets, painting the cars etc, so i got involved in her showjumping events, mucking out stables, feeding, tack room & i'm not a Horsey person. We parted on good terms without a single row & still speak years later.
The point is she had a hobby of her own so was understanding of mine.  :y
