We had a TV programme recently about Pakistani women that had been subject to acid attacks. Some were really badly scarred.   :( Apparently they were 'honour' attacks ie they'd brought shame on the family.  :-X

these attacks cover a wide area Andy.. not only Pakistan :(

Such 'honour' attacks are carried out within closed communities wherever they happen to be. Difference nowadays though is that there is a much greater awareness in the wider world :-\ but it only takes one brat sized moron to hear it on the news and think that it might be fun to try throwing acid at an old dear on the way to the Post Office. A bit of a change from punching her for her gyro >:(

Compulsory military service should put a stop to most of the mindless crap that goes on everyday :-\ with 'training accidents' every couple of weeks to filter out the scummiest 10% :-[

By definition, a person is said to be of a place if that is where their family originated, not necessarily because they live or were born there. ie a Pakistani could actually have been born in Bury, or Exeter or Ankara or even Islamabad. :y

There are probably as many, if not more Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian people born in the UK than there are Turks living in Germany :y
