Title: question for Dame Debs...
Post by: tunnie on 05 May 2008, 21:06:01
I noticed you have 3 dogs from your photos of your Megga, are they all the same age, or did you get them at different times?

My wifey has four dogs and does agility with them. Even represented England last year in Holland. That is why we travel all around  England in summer towing our caravan going to shows :)

Did you get them at different times? How did you find adding a new member, did the dogs there before get jelous? start doing odd things?

All the dogs came at different times and we had no problems at first. Then one day two of the bitches started fighting, could'nt stand the sight of each other. This went on for a couple of weeks then we had them spade and seems to have cured the problem. If you are getting a new dog it is important to praise the others just as much so they don't feel isolated and jealous. Also socialising is very important and a good club nearby will help

One`s the mum Tegwen(aged 9) and her two sons Cody (aged 6) & Metheny (aged 5).
Because the boys have been born here and grown up 'together' as a pack, there are considerably fewer 'issues' than just having one dog on it`s own and introducing a 'stranger' later.
I breed champion working Border Collie sheepdogs....I love the breed!  ;)
Tegwen (the mother) has had three litters and most of her sought-after pups have been exported to carefully selected homes in: U.S, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Holland, Italy, Hungary and Austria.

In the picture: Mum-Tegwen (shown right), Cody (left) and Metheny (centre).

Last year, one of Tegwen`s offspring; 'Ben' (one that had gone to live in Japan) came back-here for a visit to compete in sheepdog trial with his Japanese handlers.
The BBC-Tv came to cover the event as 'Ben' competed in typically Welsh weather.....Ben upon returning to Japan: subsequently went on to become Japanese National Sheepdog Champion...Debs` is VERY proud!  ;)

My wife - when she was a girlfriend - used to have a mutt dog that had a lot of Collie in him. He used to round us up and used to get uspset with us if we split up .... on purpose!!  ;)

good to know Debs  :y

So far all is well.

We have a 5 year old springer who was brought up by us as a pup, and recently introduced a male border collie / greyhound cross called Bailey

All seams very calm so far!  :)

Great photo btw

They really are a working breed Zippo; but working also means dog-sport (Shepherdng/Agility/Obedience Search & Rescue etc.)...they`re a VERY physically-active and intelligent breed and don`t take well to a home environment where the owners go out to work and leave them all day.
I`d rather t see them in active 'dog-mad' household setting rather than as a just a 'pet'.....of the 19 pups (3 litters) Tegwen has whelped; only one is placed purely as a non-working pet/companion.  :y

Beautiful dogs there Debs. Love the breed. My mum had one for 18 years. Absolutley brilliant companion especialy after my dad passed away. Everybody in the area knew my mum because of her dog. They used to see her out walking it twice a day. When it sadly passed away two years ago i did offer to get my mum another one but, as she was 90 at the time, she thought it would not be fair on the dog.
