Very sorry to hear that! :'( It probably someone jealous of you having such a lovely car or was it parked in somebody's 'space'?
I hope your insurance will sort it, but I know this never completely resolves the issue.
All the best! :y

Sorry to hear this, your not alone
happened to me as well today, went to the miggy and there is cracking of the laminate on the drivers side.
Found the beach pebble that was used on the bonnet. No other damage though.
This will be my second claim for a windscreen in less than 6 months(had it replaced in November as it failed the mot.hope the insurance company don't get pi$$ed about it.
Is there a limit to the number of claims you can make in a year?
-
i think it's 2 before they raise the premium....
check it with your own insurer....

has the carpark not got cctv Max
-
sadly not mate... semi-rural oxfordshire... CCTV not yet invented... but it's the space outside my house....
so it will shortly have CCTV
hidden in the hedge......
along with remote activated tazers.
-
:o I`m shocked and disgusted!....
It would seem this is the price we`re paying for two generations of certain people`s idea of 'free and easy' (hands-free) parenting; selfishness, zero-respect and nil-personal responsibility.
...and I bet if you`d seen the perpetrator and dealt with him/her accordingly, it would be YOU under arrest not they.

I really hope they do matey.
Cant let the little s**ts get away with mindless vandalism.
Keep us informed.
-
really sorry to hear this has happened to you max, speaking from experiance when, we came down one morning to find all my windows popped right up one side of my mig, mr plod says it was done with a ball punch. my problems didnt end there cos the windscreen company went on to balls up my car even further. on my comprhensive cover im allowed 3 claims per year for glass, now we keep the car garaged (out of sight out of mind) and yer id love to get my hands on the cretins who thought it was play time good luck max i hope you get it sorted :y
-
Sorry to hear that Max, that totally sucks >:(, would'nt have thought you would have that problem where you are, you want to check that local of your out, maybe someone coming out of there after a late night session ::)
-
Some little scrote kicked the N/S door mirror of the Rover on Friday night. Whats wrong with people that it gives them a buzz to pick on something that can't fight back. If they wanted to lose some of the aggression they have, they should have give me a knock afterwards to show me thier handy work ::)
-
If you need transprt today Max, PM me. I am only down the road from you and you can borrow mine.
-
That's awfully decent of you Dave... (as usual.... hope someone's polishing the medals and halo for you mate.... )
:D
you visiting , working, or has derby moved suddenly?? :D Could always go for a pint anyhow.... :D
should be okay today... ..... tomorrow morning's going to be a PITA though... school run around the ring road , with busted windscreen doesn't really appeal.... may have to resort to one of those things..... err what're they called? .... ermmm busts?? , no.... that's it... a BUS... apparently there's a Bus stop over the road.... ????
Windscreen bloke's coming at 11 tomorrow to fit a new one.... I'm going to try and arrange space with the garage over the road to make sure he's got somewhere dry to do it.... even if I have to pay their hourly rate for the space....
-
Pint sounds good mate. :)
No, I am mostly relocated to Twyford (near Reading) now so you are not far away at all.
-
Liz who lives over the road from me had her back screen smashed on sat lunch time whilst she was up town.
When i spoke to her yesterday, she caught some lads/teenagers on her garden on friday & she told them to clear off & she suspects this is retribution for shouting at them. Broad day light though, i was really suprized, because it's usually very pleasant where i am. Having said that, there's some delinquents moved in around the corner & they have their mates come to see them etc, etc.

so there's little point wondering if I can find your number when passing Derby at 100 70mph , on my way to/from elsewhere then !
I suspect there's a tale to tell by PM, and definitely a beer to be had ....

I'm gonna get me a Lotus Esprit, complete with the 007 car alarm.
see how they like being blown sky high the next time they opps with my car !
it appears several other people along the road have also been victimised...
I reckon a Lynch mob is a possibility...

Sad state of affairs Max. sorry to hear of the damage to your motor.
When are this naff Government going to get it that -us - the-people who put them in power -are not going to keep letting this sort of thing go on and on.
Had a big issue recently with this Yob Culture thing myself. It seems that the offenders are not concerned about the damage and inconvience they cause - simply because they know that even if they are caught "Red Handed"actually doing it -they know they will not be prosecuted- just ticked off.
If things don't start to be done by those in power to curtail this - I foresee that more and more people will be taking the law into their own hands.
BROWN and Co TAKE NOTE! Sorry Rant Over :-[
But It makes my blood BOIL! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

You must be raging, i know i would be. If i did something like that as a youngster i'd get a clout off the local bobbie, dragged home & a proper clouting from the old man. Too many do gooders & no bobbies on the beat today. I'm NOT blaming the Police, their hands are tied so tight they can't operate as they'd like to, it's not their fault.
Sadly it leaves us with no option but to fight back & believe me despite being a gentle giant i would.
I hope that when they get older & have cars/houses they care about it happens to them. >:(

About 2 years ago someone went all way down side of our Polo with a key or other sharp object, nice wavy line! End space on Morrisson's car park, a Sunday morning between 10.30 and 11am.

to add insult to injury, I've just been out to the car to havea look at the new windscreen......
bastard didn't fit the seal correctly.... it's sitting on top of the glass down both sides....
phoned their office, and complained.... they're sending someone out within the hour... fair play to the boss, he sounded distinctly put out with the fitter...... but it's going to bugger my school run at 3.
NOT frigging amused

As in it sits about 4-5mm proud down the left and right side......if so that is correct.
-
errr..... the last one didn't sit like this.....
the inner rim of the seal, that, as i recall, is supposed to fit along the edge of the glass, is sitting on the front, and then the main front lip is obviously best part of a centimetre proud of the glass itself... and the whole thing can be freely moved around.... and be pulled clear of the screen altogether....
one trip thru a car wash would rip the whole lot off.....
-
okay, the man's been.... and on one side, Mark was right... it's the rain channel,. but on the other side, I was right... it was loose.... they've glued it in "properly" and it should be good to go in about 45 minutes....
just in time for the school run !

Vandalism is one terrible factor in our lives today, and the lack of real tradesmen is another.
Everything these so called trademens do, beit in the motor industry, building / construction field or IT industry in my experience has to be checked as with this windscreen! Why should this be so? >:( >:(
It makes you bloody mad, especially as it is never cheap to employ them! >:( >:( I have reminded myself why I have always tried to do many jobs myself! Especially when, as a women, you are often faced with some spotty mechanic trying to tell you something that you know is a load of bxxlxxks! >:( >:(
That's my rant over! ;D
-
It happens to blokes too Lizzie don't worry. I recall an amusing trip to a local tyre place for a new set and being called over to the car by the fitter asking me if I was aware of the problem with the brakes. Apparently the discs were far too hot and there was a strange lip at the edge of the disc. Idiot.
Sorry to hear about the vandalism, I'm all for a spot of mob justice in retribution for damage caused. Punishments to fit the crime and all that, take a brick/hammer to various bits of their bodies and see how they like it.
-
It took RAC windscreens three attempts to fit my new screen.....

Agreed. I dread having anything done by anyone these days. Never will you get what you want first time without a load of aggro, so I count myself lucky that I can turn my hand to most things.
Problem is, people think they can command silly money to do any job with about half an hour's training these days. The fact is, unless you're incredibly gifted, any job takes practice before you can master it, and even then, you have to take pride in it to produce consistently good quality.
Quite often, organisations promote cr@p work by rewarding fast work rather then quality work, and by failing to ensure that, if a customer is not satisfied, someone gets a b0110ck1ng.

Not all "tradesmen" are incompetent, OR indeed over priced....
despite today's drama, i'm still well disposed towards the company in question... (Auto Screens of Aylesbury) .... they sorted out my concerns in double quick time, courteously and efficiently,
screen fitted today was £173.90 inc VAT.
(let just say I've also changed insurance this weekend,. after finding out our policy had no Glass cover... despite being fully comp.... lesson learned.... read the small print.... carefully , if it seems to good to be true it probably is.... Tesco insurance.. avoid like the plague... )
which to be fair is a full £200 LESS than Autoglass quoted...
-
Glad it's been resolved to your satisfaction, Max, and that's not a bad price, as you say. Mental note to check my policy for glass cover. Not very "comprehensive" if that's omitted. :o
Kevin
-
Bottom line is that
1) They screwed the job up
2) They didn't even check the work before leaving
Thats good service but crap quality, price or not (the price is average for an independent by the way as I was quoted 110 for the glass and 30 quid fitting + VAT on my old estate) it should have been right first time and not needed a further visit.
The result is yet again you cant trust a tradesman anymore to do a good job and check thier own work.
-
Recently had my windscreen changed by Autoglass - £60 excess on Insurance - I was well pleased with the work. They even had a hosepipe playing on all the seams with a guy inside watching for leaks. No complaints from me so far :)

Some years ago my son was visiting us one night and found this guy doing drugs in our front garden, my son just smacked him and flung him out the gate..my son was just opening the front door when this guy came running at him with a knife..and plunged it into his shoulder, well to cut it short when my son tried to claim criminal compensation he was told he was partly to blame for his injuries as he had forcible ejected the druggie from our premises so didn't qualify.
The druggie did a year of a 18 month sentence...he would have been better doing the whole stretch, because the day after he was released I saw him and he had a head the size of a water melon.
He thought he could strut his stuff in the pub my son uses...how wrong he was.
