Title: Violin practice
Post by: STMO123 on 06 February 2013, 17:41:00
Now don't get me wrong, I like a good violin piece as much as the next man. But....why do the practice pieces/scales have to sound so bloody awful. My lad is giving it his best upstairs. Next doors cat (who likes to make himself at home here) has just shot down the stairs like.....well...like a scalded cat, and I can't say I blame him.
Pleeeeeease.....hurry up and finish. Then I can tell you how good it was.   :-[

A learner violinist is the worst sound known to man. I tried to learn the violin when I was about 12 ,but gave up after the second lesson due to not being able to stand the sound of my own playing. ::) ;D

Hmmm possibly "the worst sound known to man" but me with my electric guitar must be a close second. Why ? I just can't play it  ;D I just make noise  :y

My electric guitar playing was always my favourite sound as a teenager.Parents and neighbours didnt agree though. My bedroom was 8x8 in a 3 bed terrace house,so a vox AC30 permanently at maximum volume didnt go down well.
Dad came close to putting a hammer through it several times, and the woman next door snapped on one occassion and threw a milk bottle at me  as I came out of our house just after finishing playing one of my loud "masterpieces". ;D ;D
I just thought they were daft old buggers who didnt appreciate good music. :)

That's probably a valve model, almost considered "vintage". Brand new ones are actually cheaper.

Paid £60 for mine.Gave it so much stick it kept blowing valves,so I binned it. :'(
Paid £250 in 1977 for a sunburst stratocaster, which was approx 5 years old.Lost interest in 1979 and sold it for £150.Dread to think what that would be worth now. ::)

My daughter played clarinet and bassoon in a local school's band & orchestra and each term there would be concerts to attend. The older 'senior' bands/orchestras were fantastic but obviously you had to watch the 'training' groups first .......
As said, you need to start somewhere.  ::) ::)

Been there myself tho'. Paid £850 for a JayDee bass that I soon found I just didn't get on with and only got £500 when PX'd for a MusicMan.
Not long after I discovered the JayDee had been custom built for Lisa Standfield's bass player and was worth around £1,650.   :-[

I played bass in a band for a while when I was 16.It had a warped neck, so I had to remember to bend the strings up on certain notes. ;D
Never enjoyed it that much tbh.

Well, I'm not an expert, but I think that 1970's Strats like these are smack bang in the CBS period so are regarded by collectors as "inferior". Not a bad price for "inferior".

Correct, but have a look at prices of pre CBS models,if you can find one.I dont doubt that they are inferior to the pre CBS instruments, but as the owner of a Strat approx. 10 years old,I can say with absolute certainty that the 1970,s Strats were very superior indeed to a more modern version. :y

Yeah, probably right. I wouldn't know. Mine is '94 USA Standard and I've never had any other to compare it with. But it wouldn't make any difference to me anyway as I can't actually do much more than strum a few chords (this not false modesty, it's actually true  :-[). My son who can actually play very well thinks it's nuts for me to have such an instrument.

What I want is a guitar, ANY guitar, that I can pick up and instantly play like Ritchie Blackmore used to  :y    :y
