Title: Warning for Hillpers boot mod.

Having taken the car to vauxhall after Hotle21's tech2 said "cannot communicate with vehicle" The auto electrician rewired the Boot mod as it was this that was preventing communication with the tech2 when trying to program keys. Completing the central locking circuit. This modification has cost me £70 extra. Hopefully if anybody has the boot mod and needs to program keys, this information will save them some pennies.

How can it be total crap when Hotel21's tech2 gave the same issue. The technician did not know about the boot mod and obviously traced the circuit back and once reconnected the tech2 communicated??

My interior lights stay on for about 10-15 seconds after ignition switched on, or having opened and closed door with ignition on since doing boot mod.

If you're so sure about this, why not explain your reasoning?  Otherwise it just looks rude/dismissive.

I've got hillpers boot mod on the 2.2, cut the wire myself. Had new key programmed via tech2 about a month or so ago, no issues.

Also that mod has been on OOF since the very early days, no other reports of issues.

How do you know that the OP's mod was done the same?

How many ways can you cut a single wire  ???

Not many, but there's lots of ways to cut a wrong wire.  ;D

Exactly.  :y

Most likey nicked another wire while doing the mod, disturbed something. Another fault was causing communication issue, back in early days this mod was very popular. First time ever heard of an issue with it (other than courtsey light staying on longer)

Mod followed to the letter, no issues in 4 years. It could be that I opened the door with the key instead of the fob, because keys had lost program while the alarm was set. Maybe with this circuit incomplete and the alarm triggered it takes a different route for tech2. I wouldn't right it off as total crap though, when reconnection resolved the issue.
My car is a 2000 if that adds anything.

whats the boot mod?

I think it lets you open the boot with the keys in the ignition?

I never bothered with it, by many find it useful..

whats the boot mod?

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90516.0 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90516.0)

Early facelifts had to have key removed to pop boot.

Mine is also a 2000 year with mod, never had a problem

Have you ever had a key reprogrammed with the alarm triggered?

Cheers mine is like that - bit of a pain having to remove the key if you are opening the boot for a passenger

There are a fair few different ATWS ECUs fitted to facelifts, not just the 2 (early/late) we assume.

Wonder if it only affects some types  :-\

Did we do that? Can't remember  :-[

I remember you scrabbling around for the carpass, and I remember soldering in some switches into one of your fobs (don't ask me which car).

Its that Albs bloke, he's infected me with Albshiemers ;D

I know you have the boot mod, with that annoying interior light problem (thats really annoying).

I was asking if we did the key, as I really can't recall doing it  :-[

Did I mention the boot mod is *really* annoying?

Yeah we did a key, few weeks before I went to Austria. Done on the road outside Tunnie Towers, think your rusty bullet was in  our garage for some reason? Think we decided to loose some sockets in your engine  ;D ;D ;D

Don't really interior light issue, what does really annoy me is the 3.2's tapping  ::)

I refrained from doing the boot mod on mine because of the interior light side effect. Is there a way around it?

Yes

Is it as easy as the mod itself?

No

There is more than one way to do it. I'll post up options when I can see through the snot fest
