Title: Reversing Camera
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 21 April 2008, 18:30:19
Just looking at reversing camera's on Ebay.

Has anyone fitted one, are they any good.

I was also wondering wheter to fit one to the car facing forwards and attach it to some sort of recording device in the car.

With the standard of some driving these days maybe it would be a good idea to record the journey.

Dont know whether it would be legal or not

Im thinking of adding one to the rear, so I can see where my shin breaker is.

Not that helps much

Gaffers, why bother with a reversing camera.  Just park on top of what ever is behind.   ;D ;D

Too much paperwork afterwards, besides now after this corporate manslaughter change.....  :o :o

These little babies spin 360 on the spot and I had one cruising down the road at 45mph! Loved it  :y

The problem I've not yet worked out is not which camera to buy but what to display the picture on and discrete mounting of the monitor

I would love to park that out side my house.  Drive up to the one at the back and shove the whole lot down the road.

I live in a block of 6 toen house and 4 of them have 2 cars per house and park them at the front.  One of the neighbers just pulls in and parks with consideration for others.    Oh how much I would like to shorten it for her with that little tool.

I thought about the location of a screen and considered a DVD with a pop up screen (similar to one I saw here on a thread as I joined the forum.)(the one that had all the gubbins inc sat nav)

But if the deal goes through for my Elite this week I would rather keep the CCRT700 and the kit installed with it.

This is why I was looking at these.

I don't like wireless rather have it wired, and with it being portable increased risk of it getting lost/stolen, I too like my VX radio and don’t want to be forced to change it.

I'm sure I'll work something out when I apply myself to it, possibly modify the sun visor.

Yes I totally agree, what ever gets fitted needs to be wired in even if the DVR is in a posistion and can be unplugged whenever required.

Am still looking would be interested if other members have seen anything anywhere that would be suitable

What you really need is a later nav setup, a CID instead of the MID and a small mod to take an external RGB input.

Possibly but, more likely to be used as a TV feed....

Little reminder... :)

IIRC there are several regulations regarding what can and can't be "viewed" by the driver whist a vehicle is "in motion" .. these regs had to be amended to allow SatNav's, but still apply to other "screens".

I have driven vehicles where TV screens have been fitted that have interlocks on the handbrake so as to prevent "viewing" whilst in motion, and a truck with a rearview camera that was wired through reverse gear.

I also believe it is not permissable to have a rear view camera INSTEAD of a mirror.

I don't know the law on this at all .. just things I seem to have picked up in passing ... but might be worth considering the legal position ??

HTH

It wouldn't be in TV mode when driving as I would want the info on the screen.

You spotted my deliberate mistake.

Well done.

Where shall I sent the prize.

Of course I meant to put WITHOUT CONSIDERATION TO OTHERS

What wiring do the screens need? I wonder if it'd be possible to wire up a screen to act as a reversing camera for a caravan so that the screen was fed via the 12S socket, there'd only be a couple of spare wires though.

I had thought about changing the mid, what would be involved? how would it affect the information currently displayed on it?
