My wife has just been explaining over the phone how when she was reversing, the mirrors moved and she had to bend them back manually. :-X
I think I give up.

::) ::) ::) ::)

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-X
-
An obvious case of Please read the manual ::) :D :D :D
-
she has - it has been in kitchen for past week - not in car!!
-
must be a slow reader then as she hasnt got to that page about reversing, does she know about the handbrake tho :o :o
-
handbrake is only thing on which we have clarity of purpose and use. we had an incident last week when she could make phone calls but not receive them on the integrated blue tooth. The Lana del Ray cd is working though.
-
For those of us who are befuddled, please explain about the mirrors and parking brake.

They have a stupid, gay electronic handbrake, at only serves to frustrate (and absolutely bloody useless for doing U-turns - not that the Omega one is any good), and silly mirrors that dip down when reversing, which simply isn't necessary on a non 4x4/people carrier.
-
Thank you.

The only frustating thing about it so far is the Sat Nav.
Whilst it has enough memory to hold the whole of Europe, each map for each country comes on a separate CD, and overwrites the memory each time you load, so you can only have one country on at a time (unless you have the DVD800 system).
Mines the CD500.

Why is that an issue though...? Ime having every European address listed just means it takes longer to find the address you want. :-\

It takes about 20/25 mins to load the maps, and erase the maps that are already loaded.

So, still far better off with a Tom Tom. ;)

Could be right, but I quite like the way it's built into the car.
Takes into account towing a caravan as well :y

Not used a gay Insignia satnav, but would conclude that my ancient NCDC outperforms the TomTom by a country mile. Hence, my last TomTom is just off the Aston Expressway :-[

Gives you something productive to do on the ferry.

I'm quite impressed with the Insignia Sat Nav, does what it says on the tin, maps are expensive though.

Can't imagine more expensive than other maps?

£99 per map, for the CD500.
£179 for the whole of Europe on the DVD800.

you need to upgrade that steam powered gayphone of yours

Does it come with an anger management App? Only it's a bit shiny to defenestrate onto the expressway.. ::)

Not really. IOS 6.1 has fixed the 'chopiness/stutter'. And it runs a satnav app as well as the later models.

I don't need an app to make me angry. 95% of fellow road users are enough.

...because imo, tomtom on iphone works perfectly well. :)
how old was your tomtom btw?

matters not, *any* portable device would have gone. Fortunately iPhone was in my bag in the boot.
It was my fault - for some reason I took the Rover (and hence needing a portable unit) rather than my Omega.
To be perfectly honest, the stoneage CARiN fitted to 1998/9 3.0l Elites massively outperforms *any* portable unit, if you have the patience to wait for it to calculate the initial route.

...which means it takes forever to recalc..?

In my opinion Vauxhall cannot make any decent double DIN head units, still using CD's for map data? On Insignia WTF!? :o
The entire range of FL head units are total shite, I'd junk the NCDC if it could, but can't be bothered to rip out Bose. Only thing going for them is the factory fit look, TomTom just bash in a postcode. Job done.

Could have put whole of Europe maps in though, on a built in disc or solid state drive such as SD card.
You can spend about 100 quid on a TomTom and it comes with full Europe maps, don't see why you have to fart around with loading CD's for map data. :-\
-
Insignia is going to have exact same problem as Omega, 10 years time, bespoke radio, tired CD lens >:(

Can't argue with that.

With care Thomas can be plumbed in quite neatly, in a semi permanent way :y

A lot of aftermarket can bus systems safe coming on the scene now, several on the Insignia forum are fitting them.

Sounds good, does it come with a Aux in?

As far as I'm aware, they seem to do everything including touch screen.

Looks good, fairly big strip down job though.
Have you done any DIY work on it yet like oil changes?

Nope, hope to give it an interim around May.

going back to original post - I have now found a solution to Please read the manual.
As SWMBO spends a lot of time emailing friends and on facebook I am now sending a couple of pages of manual to her each day by email. We are still on mirrors but today's lesson is the config button and activation and deactivation of reversing mirrors. Maybe a practical session tomorrow??

Sorry the post got hijacked.
Is yours the DVD800?
-
I actually have not even been in the car yet (apart from when she drove it back from garage -first stop Waitrose) but I think it is Navi 900 - just asked her to go and check as I am at work. Not sure what the tech differences are but presume one is DVD and one using SD cards.

Yes, the DVD900 uses SD cards, much better system.

Couple of issues have developed with the 2012 Insignia Tourer:
1. intermittent starter motor issue which dealer cannot replicate (no surprise there then). It has done it just once with me but 4 times with Mrs and it is failure of starter to engage so you end up with whirring noise. All contacts checked and battery but will have to see how it goes.
2. front parking sensors are a bit hit and miss :D. Sometimes they bleep and sometimes not - will have to measure consistency on this problem.
3. steering lock was difficult for SWMBO to disengage one day but no recurrence since.
The Insignia for the money and warranty package is ok - but the above is disappointing and takes edge off - i.e. relaibility is in doubt
-
Not good considering its so new :(

No, its quite quick on recalc. Its just the initial route plan that takes ages on CARiN with latest (circa 2008) maps. By ages, read 45s or more :o

As I keep saying, last years TomTom units are not a match for a 15yr old CARiN.
Any factory fit in any modern car is going to be dated in a few years, and will be difficult to change due to the way they are integrated. This situation will only get worse.
The NCDC isn't so bad. Could be quicker when using the map display, and definately needs an Aux In. The phone, if fitted, is "functional", but offers a full power setup, so grabs a signal where handsets can't. Other than that, its a good all round system. That said, I'm not a big postcode fan, having had TomTom screw me over more than once with postcodes - I always go address now.

I've been getting a lift in one while I'm working in Lisbon this week. Whenever I'm sat in the back, I end the 30 min ride feeling sick. The rear door windows seem tiny and my head is on the roof lining. One good thing though is the quality of voice calls via the bluetooth link with your phone. It's excellent!

Never sit in the back whilst I'm driving it ::)

It is very cramped in the back for adults :(
