Just read the maintenance guide for "Changing the Oil on a V6" by x25xe - talk about 1 teaspoon of instruction mixed with 4 gallons of patronisation!

::) ::)
Well at least someone took the time out to make it and participate and try to help others.
Remember knowledge levels are not all the same and this is an enthusiasts forum.

Given that an oil change is most people's first foray into DIY maintenance I believe it's an excellent guide that covers all the potential pitfalls. If you need to follow a guide to do an oil change it has all the information you could posssibly need. If you don't then it's bound to be teaching you to suck eggs. :-/

Don't knock it, just cos you have enough knowledge!
When I came here I had NEVER done an oil change myself, didnt know how, and frankly a bit intimidated by it.
That guide gave me the confidence to do it :y
After I had done it, It was ok, so what was I worried about?
Only mishap was my pound shop oil filter strap was next to useless!
Now do it without thinking about it.
Lets face it, its only people like I was, that the guide is aimed at.

MMMM first post a fairly major criticism of the site .... does not bode well methinks ... :(
As previously said... some folks have never touched a car so need all the help they can get... far better to detail everything than to assume knowledge that isn't there ..... as that could get expensive !!
If you don't need the information .. don't read it ... it is only that INFORMATION ... not "tablets of stone from Mount Sinai"
BTW ... "Hello" and Welcome .... :)
:) ;D ;D ;D

Just read the maintenance guide for "Changing the Oil on a V6" by x25xe - talk about 1 teaspoon of instruction mixed with 4 gallons of patronisation!
And to add, this is a very helpful forum, aimed at people with varying knowledge / skill.......
And your 1st post is a critisism!
Think you should take a long hard look at yourself before having a go at others who are trying to help.
Or are you just a troll, come here to stir up trouble?

Firstly, so apparently any criticism is stirring up trouble is it? You should work for the Chinese government, or Robert Mugabe, or the Burmese Junta - they have VERY similar views to you on criticism.
Secondly, no, I'm not a "troll", I'm an Omega owner (2.6 V6 2001 model) who has been reading posts on this forum for quite a while, but was motivated to sign up to voice my criticism of the oil change post.
Thirdly, I have a mirror, so am well able to take a good look at myself. Perhaps YOU should take a good look at me as well through my writings, and you might learn something useful - one example being that the correct spelling is criticism, not critisism. There you go, you've just doubled your education level. You're welcome.

Your comments and personal attack are frankly uncalled for.
If you have been looking in on the forum for some time you will know that we are a friendly bunch and your opening post is not particularly in the spirit of things.

Just for reference I have been and read the oil change guide. Now for someone who is highly conversant with the procedure, some of the script may seem like teaching your grandmother to suck eggs.
However this a clear and concise guide for any oil change novice who requires guidance on what to do and what to expect.
This is the category of person this guide is aimed at, and I applaud X25XE for producing it.
As other forum members have already suggested - if you don't like it then be quiet and if it really offends you that much produce your own "better" guide and post it up. The sharing of information in a healthy manner is the essence of this forum. I have been a member here since almost the very beginning and the effort that members go to to help out those who are in need is exemplary.
And nit picking over spelling is just childish :exclamation
-
It is a bit basic but does mention tools required and oil amount. I'd say it was well aimed at the novice.

if you have been reading threads for a while you may have noticed there are people whose knowledge of omegas is staggering.the most obvious case in point would probably be marks dtm,i havent noticed people of that calibre criticising others for posting basic versions of "how to,s".so may i respectfully suggest that when you can demonstrate that your knowledge surpasses those people ,then you might have earned the right to poke fun at someone who has taken the time and effort to try to be of assistance to beginners ;)

O, enough.
Thread locked as this is serving no purpose and descending into a slanging match.
