He's come up with a really lame excuse. He says he was legless and doesn't remember anything.

Should have done a runner, they would have never caught him.

This story could run and run. Although I don't think his alibi will stand up in court.

He'll soon 'stump' up the truth when they tell him he's got no rights 'cos they're still in the wardrobe and he's wearing both left ones! ::) ;D

Hmmm, and people say I'm an unromantic sod!I reckon even I could've come up with a slightly better St.Valentines day surprise than that if I'd put my mind to it!
-
He could have used a blade, then done a runner :D ;D ;D

Gone through all these jokes virtually as soon as the news broke but on the radio this morning there was a lady from the South African media saying that sadly this sort of thing was far from uncommon in parts of SA where crime is rife and gun ownership the norm. Even though he lived in a "secure" complex with guards and CTV this fear of violent crime is still prelevant. Last year apparantly some guy was woken up by a car pulling up outside his window and he took his gun and shot out the bedroom window killing his own daughter! :oWhilst I might conceivably see why people might live in some degree of fear and might resort to carrying a firearm, I cannot understand why he didnt call out first to identify who it was before he fired. I believe she was a well known model and his girlfriend of some months who the guards were obviously used to seeing in the complex.

This sort of thing was not common place, indeed SA was a stable relatively safe country untill the majority rule came in........ :( :(
-
They were going on about it on Jeremy Whine today.
Britain has a population of around 60 million and about 700 murders every year. South Africa has a population of around 40 million and 25,000 murders every year!! :o

I know a few South Africans and whilst all try to get back as often as possible to see family (given high cost of flights) and all clearly miss the landscapes, weather and wildlife they also agree on their reasons for moving -better job opportunities/better services/less crime. Speaking to any of them, very clearly there are an awful lot of places where its not advisable to go. And there is no "racist " leaning here either. The young white South Africans I know are very anti-racist and the one young black South African I know has the same views on his country of birth. (Whilst those of my generation probably hold similar views about South Africa given the high profile of the anti-aparthaid movement in the 80s, its interesting to note the views that South Africans of that same generation and younger held of the UK . Suffice it to say , they were not terribly accurate nor very comlimentary and very stereotypical ;D. But then I guess we are all guilty of that when the majority of our information comes from TV or newspapers. At least the net now provides us with a greater range of opinions upon which to form more balanced judgments?).

Saw him at Paralympics, when Team GB's Peacock won. (what a moment!) :y :y :y
But if its all true, its a real shame as he's been an inspiration for many :(

I thought he was brilliant but I lost a bit of respect for him when he threw his toys out of the pram when he was beaten

Same. Hope his 'status' doesn't get him off the hook. There is a lot of public sympathy for him >:(
