Title: help: battery flat, deadlocked and cant get it into car??
Post by: woolley11 on 16 February 2013, 10:38:57
Morning all

Just gone to the Mig (mv6 1999) to start playing with it to put on the road again after laid up over winter, but car battery flat now (which it wasnt last week - but hey ho) - the key wont open drivers door neither so effectively locked out of the car. :'(

Any easy solutions other than trying a coat hanger.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Squirt some WD40 or Lightoil (other brands are available) into the door lock and work it gently until it opens.

Key in drivers door, turn hard right, pin may not come up so hand on door handle in open position while doing this should open door.

As above, you key will/should open the driver's door, however, years ago when I tried, mine refused to do so. Bare in mind that the lock button won't pop up as normal & you really need to use quite a bit of force to unlock it.
Failing the above .... try the boot. You can either crawl through the boot (or send a small child  ::)) to open the bonnet, or pop the boot light & apply 12 volts from another battery. That'll be enough for the key fob to open the central locking.

got in in the end by forcing the key to unlock - goes against the grain to force it but it worked
