Title: LCD dsiplay not working after charging flat battery
Post by: woolley11 on 17 February 2013, 16:36:42
Hi All

Anyone give an opinion on why my LCD display on my MV6 (1999) has suddenly decided not to work.

I had a totally flat battery which I have charged up over the last full day. Just took the car for a spin now and realised that the LCD display has "gone awf"  ???. Does it have a separate fuse at all? Was working fine yesterday? Radio working fine etc..

Any pointers gratefully recieved

My first thought would be a blown bulb, there are 4 that illuminate it, but most people dont notice when they go 1 by 1 until the last one goes.

It was working (brightly) before hand. Have checked the dimmer knob and thats fine.

Just seems to have gone all together unless somehow connecting/disconnecting the charger I have blown all four bulbs?

Almost as there is a fuse gone but does it have its own circuit or is it linked in with interior lights etc?

if the speedo etc is illuminated, then as far asI know, the MID should too.

We are talking the standard yellow and black screen arent we?

If the above are working, then I would nip the clocks out and check the bulbs with a mulitmeter.

10 min job, guides are in the maint guide section :y

yes its the black/yellow display?

Will get it out this week and have a look at the state of the bulbs. I need to get at one on the air con buttons, so will have a session.

Just seems odd all bulbs have gone in one go

cheers

As I hinted at earlier, the illumination is subtle and most dont notice 3 going...I was sat in someones omega this week just like that!

Weve seen it a lot of times, the majority only notice when the last one goes.

Amazing how well 1 bulb does really!  remarkabley uniform illumination is possible with just the 1 working.

I may be wrong....but I know where I'd be checking first :y
