Hi,
Am driving 2003 Diesel Estate, 108k miles, FSH... car has been well looked after but has rattle / knocking that is getting worse.
Occurs at speeds over 20mph when i ease off the power... does not appear to be from suspension (can go over speed bumps and it doesn't get worse). Have just had both front wishbones replaced by Main Dealer, but noise still there. All exhaust mounts were replaced as well, just in case
Dealer now says it is engine mounts and recommends replacing 3 mounts (2 x engine and 1 x gearbox)
Is this a common problem? (this is my 3rd Omega and have not come across this problem before) or is there anything else that could be a suspect / possible cause?
thanks

Possibly drop links mate ;)
Engine mounts not usually an issue - gearbox mount only an issue if soaked in oil/atf (gearbox leaking)

antirollbar droplinks are common for making this kind of noise at 20mph kinda speeds..

Too slow ;D

Ouch! Hope they used Vaseline!
As above, have you looked at the droplinks?

Must type faster ;D ;D ;)

seems to be that droplinks are favourite here... gearbox is manual and doesn't seem to leak...
am currently working in Dublin, so am having to use Opel dealer here... don't know how well they know Omega's... i haven't seen that many here.
rattle starts at about 20mph, but is there at whatever speed i go at above that...
will go back to main dealer and suggest that droplinks are looked at... would they affect the steering? car drives perfect all the time...
thanks

Does it still happen when you just roll along at such a speed in neutral / clutch in?

Not necessarily ;)

Assuming the rattle is in time with minor road bumps...
Drop links connect the roll bar to the shocks.
So if the car is in a corner with body roll off ANY sort, any play in the drop links is taken up due to the torsion of the roll bar, so they can't rattle. Point is they can only rattle while the car is level, or as the suspension passes the point where each side is level, which may help you diagnose them as faulty.*
The amount of play required for them to rattle is minuscule, but, if the car is on level ground, its more than possible to reach under and grab the roll bar by the drop link ball joint and pull up and down, any play can be felt.
*edit, the car needs to be moving obviously ;D ;)

Similar issue with mine a few months back. Droplinks. Old nuts pretty siezed but not a hard job to do in about an hour. I used a pair of genuine Vx droplinks and 4 new nuts which cost £72.10 inc VAT

My local motor factor sold me 2 drop links for £10 each and they did the job fine but you might have to cut the nuts off the old one unless you got access to air tool to remove don't use to replace or you be back to square one
