I have always fancied a go on a Segway. Both myself and Mrs V got the chance yesterday.
Bit unnerving at first as your brain tells you to try and keep balanced but of course the machine does all that. Within a few minutes I was bombing around the square (Bib Rambla in Granada) and even felt confident enough not to use the handlebars. This model (the X2) retails for about £5000 and has a top speed of over 10mph (19kmh). Unlike in Britain , in Spain they are classed as bicycles. The fellow demonstrating them runs 2 hour guided tours of the city once each party member has had basic instruction.
To reverse you just lean back, turning is just leaning sideways. Stopping just stop leaning forwards.
I could quite fancy one. I would be interested to see how they cope with gravel and slopes in the countryside.
The photo shows my stunt double in action.

Anyone else had a go ?

Not had a go but I quite fancy one too ::)

I quite fancy a go to. Did someone say they where illegal in the UK ? I am sure someone said it :-[ If so, why ?
-
I don't think they are illegal but you can't use them on paths and you certainly can't use them on roads so there will be very few places you can actually use them.

Indeed, they're a 'self propelled vehicle' (or something like that) and thus subject to all the C&U regs just like a car/motorcycle .. which, of course, they fall foul of.
Try not to Segway straight off a cliff like the fella who bought the company, Varche ;)

The inventor drove one off a cliff IIRC.

That probably depends on who's driving it and whether they had a curry last night or not .. ;D
