I think if you undo the filler plug, fluid will escape if the level is ok? If there is no drainage then top up required :y

Sounds complicated :o ... Wont be giving this a go anytime soon, Was just washing the wheels and in 1 hour (in daylight) the water turned to ice :o

Theres not really anything to it mate. youre looking for the 13mm level plug on the transmission pan.
run car to temp.
level surface, jack drivers side and support on stands
loosen 13mm plug.
start car.
take out plug.
fill.
let back down to drain.
once fluid stops coming out, rejack up and refit plug.
wipe up excess.
done

Thanks Webby, That gives me an idea where to look and a good guide there to boot. Just need to get some warm weather.

no probs mate..... i'm presuming the 2.2 is the same but i'm sure if i've got it wrong someone will be along to tell you/me :)
the only thing you need to make sure is you dont get under the car unless its on good quality axel stands. oh and the cat is hot so watch out for that :)

i think (again correct me if i'm wrong peeps) that under ''normal driving conditions'' you dont need to touch it. there is also some folk who believe that REPLACING the fluid in a transmission where the fluids never been changed have seen them fail shortly after due to the new fluid oxidising the internal parts.
however i know the folk on here believe a routine (70k miles???) change should be adhered to.
me personally am going to do just a top up (like you). i have 98k on clock and no evidence its ever been changed. and the car doesnt exactly have a hard life. so just a top up will be good enough in my mind.
as said though this is just what i'm going to do personally and i'm just commenting on what other people have said :y

Webby just for clarification is the engine still running when you drop car down to drain to level.And then I assume that you jack up again to get plug back in (not much room under there.

YES ... level check is done with engine running, gearbox in neutral, system at normal temperature :)

do you guys think it would be an idea to spray a bit of penetrating oil on the drain plug if it's never been off the car???

Have to get PlusGas off eBay, I could never find it Hellfrauds or other motor factors :(

There must be something about plus gas it used to be available in stores to use in the gas industry but it has now been made unavailable.
