Title: TC & ABS.
Post by: footloose on 23 February 2013, 12:00:57
I have a couple of sensors to fit in place of the one i stuffed up getting out. They are very tight to fit, in fact the one i am trying to fit won't go in the hole. is it corrosion or is there more than one size of these things. I dont want to start tapping the thing, not after the one i took out fell to many bits. Any ideas.

Almost certainly. I would roll up a piece of emery cloth or sandpaper and get the hole clean before trying again.

Are the sensors new? (or good as new). Old ones may have rusted internally and swollen if water has managed to get into them :(

Sensors came from me ,from a car I dismantled. The car had under 75,000 on the clock but I suspect the sensors were newer than the car. They came out quite easily, and any others I have tried to remove have had to be broken up to get them out.
Afaik there arent different types/sizes. My thoughts are the same as yours, corrosion in the holes they sit in.May even be worth a circular emery attachment on a drill ?
As OP says, probably not a good idea to whack them too hard to get them in as its likely to wreck them.Need to be able to go in with light tapping I would imagine.

They are as good as new. very clean and the magnets operate ok. I will clean out as after getting a look in the hole with a torch it looks pretty grubby. :y

I cant believe I have left this for nearly a year, anyway my MOT has just run out and I still have the TC and ABS lights lit up and I think I am right in saying that is an automatic fail now thanks to Europe, my plan was to replace the wheel speed sensor on the near side front wheel and see if it cures it, I swear I looked on ebay for them before Christmas and they were going for about 30 quid, I just had another look and they are now approaching a hundred in some places  :o anyone know a cheaper source ? if that didnt work the next step of the plan was to get my ECU re-furbed.

Should I have started a new thread ?
