Title: Engine swap
Post by: Jamesm on 24 February 2013, 17:31:44
Just wondering if any 1 could help me with this. Ive got a 2.5 mv6 omega which i took engine out as it didnt have enough power . Its a drift car with everything removed roll cage hydro handbrake etc. anyway i bought an ex police omega 3.2 mv6 an was wondering will it put in my car ? Before. I go an take the engine out ? I have both cars sitting side by side my 1st one is 1998 an the cop one is 2001 facelift estate. Thanks

That could be a mare, as its going to be a pain to retrofit the engine management from the newer car.

You could use the old engine management, but would need some effort around throttles, EGR and SAI. Plus the mapping may be too far off?

AS TB implies .... 2.5 is cable controlled throttle etc ... 3.2 is "drive by wire" electronic controls ...... big difference in hardware fittings ... :(

Both ecus are in the same place. Cud i not just take ecu an loom out of police car an put it in my car ? And take ignotion barrel and key to ?

if you replace bare engine then you no need mess around with wiring
EDIT:
its an easy swap  :y :y drop me pm and i can explain all

When both engines out would throttle issue not be easy sorted ? Change the intake in throttle body ?

That would be easiest solution, thus keeping the original engine management system.

You bolt the old engine management system, sensors etc to the 3.2, simples.

Thanks lads. So i take the engine manafement outbwith the 3.2 and put the lot into old car ? Also is there any ways of tuning the engine to up the bhp ? The cheapest way lol

No, you fit the engine management setup from the 2.5 to the 3.2 and then fit it

Will that work just set the 3.2 in and plug the loom in to the ecu ?

Thinking aloud....

So keep the cam covers plug leads and sensors with the car?
So your just fitting the block Auxiliarys and heads?
As I understand it?

Manifolds, cats and exhaust from the 3.2
Bin the egr leaving the sensor electrics working.
Use 3.2 inlet?
2,5 plenum with throttles and icv

?

Remove 2.5 from car, leaving loom, ecu and throttle cable in car.

Take all the sensors, coilpacks and throttle body off the 3.2.

Fit 2.5 throttle body, sensors, dispack and plug leads to the cleared 3.2.

Refit 3.2 into car, plug all the wiring back in, and reattatch the throttle cable.

That's it, nice and straight forward, and imo a waste of a 3.2 ::)

Only tuning would be 3.0 throttle body and ecu. 3.2 has better exhaust manifolds, but you are already fitting them with the engine. May as well fit the whole 3.2 exhaust too.

Yes ignore me for a minute, I'm fuddled too. ;D

Just trying to clarify the details really. :)

Both plugs goin to the ecu at the fuse pack are different ?

Wat do u mean cleared 3.2 ?

Cleared as in take all the 3.2 sensors off the 3.2 ::) replace them with all the sensors off the 2.5.

It really isn't that complicated :-X

You fit the wiring loom, ecu and sensors from the 2.5 to the 3.2.

Add in the 2.5 plenum and cam covers plus the DIS pack and leads.  :y

How do i fit the ecu from 2.5 to 3.2 both plugs are different ? Do i take the loom of from the side of the engine ?

Send me £10,000 and i'll be over at the weekend to do it ;D

Would politely suggest you get someone else to do it :-X

Better still, scrap the whole idea...

::) Do you think he heard me then ;D I was getting the impression that the previous replies were either too quiet or too complicated, so I went for shouty and straightforward  :y

I put fair odds on someone being paid good money to sort out the resulting mess though :-\

The ECU answer is simple, you sue the ECU and wiring loom from the 2.5 along with its sensors etc.

All you use of the 3.2 its block, heads etc, the mechanical bits (excluding the cam covers which need to be from the 2.5)

Will the 2.5 ecu run the 3.2 properly
Title: Re: Engine swap
Post by: 05omegav6 on 26 February 2013, 16:31:58
Should do. Once you have it up and running, swap the throttle body for a 3.0 one and the ecu for a 3.0 one and it should fuel it accordingly :y

But for now, the 2.5 one should be fine :y

No can do Al  ;)

The 3ltr and the 2.5ltr throttle positioning sensor are wired up different.

If the engine loom is off a 2.5 then you must use a 2.5 throttle body  :)
3ltr ecu will work just fine with a 2.5's loom  :)

Jamesm, easyist way to explain is .................. take all top bits off the 2.5 then bolt it to the 3.2's block  :)
Stick a 3ltr ecu in the ecu box and connect it to the loom.
You could also try a 3ltr chip upgrade which should give you a bit more grunt  :)

Learn summat new... :y

Presumably the 2.5 throttle body can be tweaked to allow a bit more air in as required :-\

Tbh, I don't think they is much difference  :-\
At the end of the day, the air intake side is the same diameter as the standard bagpipes and the plenum side looks the same  :-\
Evan with the ecu's, iirc the 3ltr only fuels a little bit more right up at the top of the rev range
