Title: Camshaft cover gasket failure + smokey exhaust?
Post by: johnny_boy on 26 February 2013, 18:14:52
My camshaft cover gasket has failed big time. Plug holes full of oil.
Engine was had white smoke before.
Removed plugs, oil dropped down into cylinder, when i started up again the exhaust poured out white smoke.
After 5 minutes of running this smoke cleared.
Now the engine produces a steady bit of white smoke.
Is it just the camshaft cover gasket failure that is causing the white exhaust smoke?
Or could it be the head gasket?
I have no other symptoms of hgf by the way.
Just a slight misfire.

white smoke is normally water being mixed in the combustion chamber, oil is normally blue smoke, are you losing coolant but dont seem to have a visible leak.?

Update
Have replaced rocker cover gasket. Old gasket pieces has completely fried to a crisp.
Lots of black gasket seal to make the job a good un.
Replaced plugs and ht leads.
Ran the car up today for minutes. No smoke.
And car revs sweetly, no hesitation.
Total transformation from when i got it two months ago.
Now just the wishbones to do and the idler and the car will be back where it should be.
Thanks for all posts etc keeping my car on the road.
