Title: Question.
Post by: OmegaAnglesey on 27 February 2013, 02:05:47
I went and saw a 3.2 Elite locally a few weeks back (which im considering) and noticed it had a silver radio but the same type the Omega has but not the dark black/grey colour as in most FL Omega's .. Can anyone shed some light on this, first of all I thought it was from the Vectra C which is possible I guess  :-\

First thought is probably correct, Vectra C and Signum are gunmetal rather than charcoal :y

If it's actually silver, then possibly from an Astra H or Zafira B, but these have a slightly different profile, with a 'ridge' vertically down the centre to better match their dash contours :y

A picture...

I presume that this isn't a majour problem apart from the colour of the unit ?
Will try and test the nav and radio , cd etc on it to make sure mind.

Someone older and wiser might know better, but iirc early Vectra Cs are only partial canbus, so might not be a big deal, but be sure to check that it ALL works as it should :y

it doesn't have the colour display just the half screen orange pixels (cant remember the official name) so even on this display it should say Bose? But I thought all the Omega speakers where Bose on (elite) so doesn't matter about the radio as the speakers are Bose unless I'm missing something here ? ???

The Bose equipment is more than just speakers - it's a set of Bose speakers plus a Bose amplifier and a Bose subwoofer.  The amplifier, subwoofer and speakers only work as a package with a Bose enabled headunit as the output needs to be at 'Bose amplifier input' levels rather than speaker or line level as it would be in any other car..

Connecting a 'normal' headunit (e.g. a non-Bose GM unit or an aftermarket unit) to the Bose amplifier or Bose speakers is a no-no due to the odd input levels (amplifier) or very low impedance speakers if you bypass the amp..

So because the Vectra, Signum etc didn't have Bose on any spec models that means this head unit will not work with the Bose if I understand correctly. So the easiest way to cure this to work on Bose would be to buy another head unit (an Omega one). I imagine it's not going to be a simple swap even if I can find a compatible unit.

If your unit can be Bose enabled,or if you replace it with one which already is enabled, you still need to install a Bose amp, speakers, wiring loom etc. They are all readily available, but a bit time consuming to fit it all. :y

its a Elite Omega with Bose installed just that the radio head unit seems to be from a Veccy C or Signum.

I have a silver one like that. Sat on top of the telly in the dining room  :-[

A bit of billy bovine on this thread, so lets clarify. All NCDC2013/5 are bose-able, regardless of the original car. Needs a chat with Tech2. Bose on the display means the square root of frack all.
