Title: Oil leak possible Rocker gasget change on a 2.5 v6 cdx
Post by: sticky on 03 March 2013, 10:56:52
I have just noticed a small drip of oil on the road now and again and after a real quick check by my garage they said it might be the rocker gasgets it seems to be coming from at the back of the engine but its difficult to say being so confind between the bulkhead . so I was wondering about the overal cost of this and the time it would take .
The garage guy said its a big job , so im assuming it'll be expensive then yes?
Also looking at some of the posts ppl have mentioned about making sure the breathers are cleaned yes ?I guess the garage would know this anyway wouldn't they. Can someone please help me with some info and advise me. Car is still running fine.
Thanks sticky .

..... I guess the garage would know this anyway wouldn't they. .....

In a word ....... NO  ;)
That's half the problem, garages fit pattern cover gaskets to cure oil leaks & don't sort the reason why they've failed in the first place. You then have two problems .... pattern gaskets that'll fail sooner rather than later & blocked breathers that pressurise the top end of the engine & force oil passed the pattern gaskets.  ::)

have a look at your breathers http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90653.0 If your have never been done in the life of your car, I suspect that'll tey'll need doing.  :y

Have a read of these two maintenance guides

Changing the V6 Camcover Gaskets (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90542.0)

Cleaning the V6 Crankcase Breather Setup (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90653.0) (just realised that Andy B has already directed you to this one  ::))

If its not a job you feel comfortable with, having looked at the guides, then try to make suitable arrangements with a member on here, or one of the mobile mechanics. It won't cost anywhere near the garage rates, and it'll be done right first time  :y

Oh, and as stated earlier, only use genuine gaskets if you're going to do it yourself  :y
