Got a call today from a guy telling me that the warranty on my omega is about to expire and would I like to extend it?? He was raving on for ages so I eventually hung up on him!! Anyone else get this lately?? The car has just turned 10yrs old and 60,000 on the clock but surely the warranty is long dead??

Yep a con ;)

I was thinking it had to be but thought I'd get a 2nd opinion. Do people really fall for these things??

As he said it was 'about to expire' you should have asked how you go about 'making a claim' before it expires. ;D

He was able to tell me I had an 03 plate omega. Never thought to ask how he knew this??? :o

Was it a scam ?
Wonder if they got your info from the insurer.
His patter about it running out of warranty grabbed your attn. so might just be his hook
AA do warranties on second hand motors but some of the T & C`s look a bit tight
Lad @ work has one on his elise mk 3 & it paid out on his duff alternator .

Had the same call yesterday on the work's phone so knew it was a con, mind you the bloke was highly un-amused after i'd kept him chatting for ages, then when asked my name for the "new" warranty i politely replied Mickey Mouse.

Perhaps a prev owner bought off of a forecourt, a Network Q type of thing, and the warranty on the sale was for X period of time. In that instance might have been genuine, although these warranties are usually only for about three months and I'm not sure how they'd know you currently owned the car unless they bought the database info from the insurer.

...or unless you'd been to Vauxhall to have work undertaken on the car and left them your details when paying for their services? ???

For me that is always phone down time! :D :D ;)
