Title: The end of online porn?
Post by: Nickbat on 08 March 2013, 19:28:52
Next Tuesday (12 March) the 754 MEPs of the Parliament will be voting on whether to endorse the conclusions of a report prepared by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. The " report on eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU" contains a number of proposals for improving gender equality within EU members states, but squirrelled away in Article 17 is the call for "a ban on all forms of pornography in the media" -- and it proposes "a charter to which all internet operators will be invited to adhere" as part of the framework for achieving that goal, leading activists to accuse the Parliament of seeking to police EU citizens' web activity.

Wired thinks it could happen, but is unlikely.

They won't. Some years ago it was known that in well excess of 50% of internet activity was P related  8) That number is likley to be lower now due to smart phones iPads etc, but it will still be significant and therefore represents a revenue stream to the ISPs. Why should they care what you are looking at ? Copyrighted file sharing and stuff that they could get sued over however, that is a different matter.

The government however (regardless of political party) will want to do whatever looks suitably politically correct and gives them some control.

Anyway Porn ? Internet ?  . . .  No no, surely not ?  :-X

Porn only accounts for about 3% of all internet traffic.  More than 50% of all traffic is spam.

They are just testing the water to see what they can get away with, porn now, dissenting voices and political parties are too follow. You will still get the vote but with a simplified ballot paper for the only approved political party, who will have to submit and have their candidate list vetted by Brussels. After all this system worked just fine in the Soviet Union for 80 years, where you had the wealth and idyllic lifestyle to make up for your perceived slight loss of freedom of travel and expression.

The EU official news channel and website (formally known as the BBC) will keep you fully informed along with your official newspaper "Truth" (previously called "The Morning Star"), so there will be no need for any other MSM. All this US porn, vile US capitalist propaganda and lying US news sites will be kept from your Internet screen using very successful Chinese technology.

The UK will soon be like China without the industrial capacity or wealth, okay, so more like the old Soviet Union but what did you expect with a Maoist as an unelected EU commission president.

PS: Your Comrade President Barroso has asked your not to cheat by using a VPN connection the penalties will be severe if they ever find out.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Similarily with the bankers  bonuses. They know many people will say "serves them right",but once they have established that they can decide the level of pay for employees in member states, then the principal has been established and eventually they will be able to decide everyones pay across the continent. EUSSR ;)
