Title: Insurance
Post by: BlueBridge on 09 March 2013, 02:27:00
Just had my renewal, £550 :o just had a quick look on the compare sites and best I've got so far is £390 :'(
What's everyone else paying and who with, I've got 23 years no claims and a clean licence ;)
I'm driving a 3.0 auto elite, 2000. I was only paying just over £200 last year on my old 2.5

I'm afraid in general insurance has rocketed. Both my bike and Omega went up. However the S-max went down.

£529 for both Omegas (3.0 and 3.2, both LPG'd, one chav'd etc), both myself and Mrs TB as named drivers, business use, 20k per year each, declared modifications.

£109 for the Kwaka :(, but do get £25 back in 3 months if policy still running.

£95 for breakdown (covering both cars and the bike) for both of us, including towing anywhere in the UK. So around £60 per month in vehicle insurances :(

Insured my MFL 2.0 16V 1998 CDX Estate for £376 with Admiral for £376 with 9 years no claims and I am 33 years old. I was paying £150(ish) for my workhorse Cinquecento previously, but that was jumping to £230 at renewal, so going from that to the Omega was not that bad IMO. My father now runs the Cinquecento for £180 and he has just turned 70.

All the other cars in my collection have stayed the same though, but as they are all on classic policies, it is expected.

I paid £635 tpf&t to insure my Chevette HS in 1979.That was a hell of a lot of money then.Could have bought a good second hand car for that at the time.
This year the Omega was just under £200 (iirc) with protected no claims with Swinton.Full no claims.3 points on licence.

Just got quoted a couple of mins ago for the latest addition to the fleet. 2001 3.2 Elite £256.52 with Privilage.
That's on the Go Compare site, but I reckon if I speak directly to Privilage I can get 10% off that which I did on the other four cars.I think they are there till eight on a Saturday, will give them a call now and see what happens :-\

I just have to  ;D at the quotes you guys get......i would bite the arm of anyone offering me insurance at those prices....

Try telling the brokers/insurance comps you want taxi/private hire insurance......and you could almost add a 0 to the end of your quotes  ::)

Just got a direct quote from Privilege at £158.50 which includes protected NCB/windscreen/hire car etc, christ I was only going to skin them for 1O%...RESULT :o :y they gave me the discount for no other drivers on the policy and a limit of 5000 miles annually which suits me but perhaps it would'nt suit everyone, still cheap though :y

Nothing to do with living in London, Kate. You are female and it is unversally recognised that women are crap drivers. Surprised it's that cheap really. ::)

Seriously.....living in London and driving a barge....that seems very reasonable. Some poor sods on here are paying a fortune. :-)

I took out a motor traders policy, which costs £500. But I also have a wee punto which I use in my job delivering Chinese Food 1 night a week.  My wifes insurance went from 750 to 1250 for no reason, so I got her added to my policy for an extra £250. As the traders policy covers for 'social, pleasure and domestic', its fair to say I'm feeling quite smug about it all ...!

A word of warning... Traders Policies have limited liability (a figure you set... Mine is £15k) and also only pay out Trade Value for vehicles ;)

To be consistent these quotes coming from oof members need to be expressed in a more structured way. Excesses can have a huge bearing on premiums and some companies achieve a cheap quote by whacking in a large excess. They know that they can write many cheap cars off and pay peanuts so a largish excess means no claim for some Omegas so you are really getting 3rd party cover only.  Something like a £100 voluntary and £250 compulsory basis might give better comparisons. Protected no claims is the other and legal expenses.
Title: Re: Insurance
Post by: BlueBridge on 31 March 2013, 10:00:23
I got it for £374 in the end. Fully comp, no claims protected, £100 voluntary £150 compulsary excess, legal expenses and courtesy car. Not too bad, but still too much. With M&S insurance.

I was paying £410 for the MV6, that was myself and swmbo, breakdown recovery anywhere in uk that covered both the omega and the Saab. I didn't think that was too bad. Imagine the grin on my chops when I was told the same policy with my BMW  replacing the Omega was £200 less!  ;D ;D
