Title: X20xev 2 litre idle temperature?
Post by: johnny_boy on 10 March 2013, 20:45:15
Hi
Does anyone know what the normal idle temperature of the x20xev 2 litre is?
My car seems to not get hotter than 71 degrees, accoring to tech2 and the dash gauge.
Seems very cool for a petrol engine to me.
?

Mine used to run at about 85 on the dash, but slowly over time, it struggled to get over 80. Fitted a new thermostat which made things worse. Bought another one. But before fitting it, I boiled them all up in one of the wife's best saucepans (she was out), to see which one opened last. It was the last new one. Fitted that one and now it runs at a steady 88 to 90.
The heater is much improved too.
I guess the lesson is that thermostats vary, or I am unlucky.
Easy job on a 4 though. Ha!

Middle of the gauge is where it should be no matter of what revs or what outside temp is  :y

70 is too low, so sounds like a lazy stat. Good news is they are a doddle to do on 4pot  :)
