Title: Fake grass
Post by: cam2502 on 12 March 2013, 12:44:09
At the moment my back garden is a combination of paving slabs and stone chips, but with the arrival of a baby in 6 weeks I want to partially turf an area for the kid to play on.
Swmbo is dead against the idea of fake grass but to me it makes sense. She wants to put real turf down, I think it'll be turned into a mud pit in no time.

So has anyone got artificial grass? Any idea of which would be the most "child friendly"? Prices? Any info would be great. Thanks :y

In my simple opinion there is nothing better for your children, and you, than real grass.

It is worth the effort of mowing and looking after. Fake grass just does not have the same texture.

So don't be lazy, go real!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

I am interested in doing our front garden in fake grass, looked at some last year but that was it, swmbo will not let me put gravel or any kind of hard-standing........she says I would end up parking a car or two on it - I have no idea why she is thinking that............

We've got some in an area where the conifers prevented normal grass from growing. It's been down about five years now and still looks as good as new but it is quite an expensive outlay. It is nice to sit on in summer as you don't get mud or grass stains on your clothes. I can see it being ideal for a toddler to crawl about on safely without getting mucky.  :y

I have Fake grass not laid as yet.

well i have spent a month looking at various suppliers and samples of grass that are suitable for 2 very large hounds and a 8 yr old monster lol

i have an aera of 10m by 5m and the grass has cost me £480 (£9.99m2)which when costed up against turf was not that much more expensive.

the sharp sand is cheeper then topsoil and the artificial grass is dearer then turf but in the long run i save on time cos i dont have to cut it, money dont need ot patch repair the turf from where the hounds have trashed it and oh yes the best bit NO MUD!!!!! ill post pictures once its laid for those interested and ill post a link when i get back home and confirm which place i brought it from  :y

I join to LZ as there is an other point of view namely the health. The natural environment like grass has much better effect for the health/immune system, which is continously but gently stimulated and gets better and stronger to other children who are not or just rarely in the nature.  :)
