Title: Drifting
Post by: Olympia5776 on 10 May 2008, 11:26:42
Just been watching some recording I did this week some of which included Drifting.  :-/
Mmmm... I just can't see the attraction in this "sport" at all .Engines running at N thousand revs tyres lasting 5 minutes and all over in 60 secs. Oh and musn't forget the obligatory doughnut.... ::)
What's it all about ? Ballet dancing on wheels.... ;)

You never had a playtime in a snow covered Tesco carpark then??   ;D

Its all about balancing power and steering the car, keeping in control at all times.  Similar to The Stig et al on Top Gear when they have a playtime on an airfield....

All still a bit pointless as a 'sport' though you have to admit?

Wouldn't call it pointless, exactly.  Its simply taking something usefull to an extreme.

Bit like the custom car scene with fancy paint jobs, oversize tyres etc or Tractor Pulling - I like the engineering involved in that but, ultimately, perhaps taking ploughing power to the extreme extreme!

I can honestly say that that is the most boring YouTube video I have ever watched.  :)

German, of course.

 ;D ;D ;D

Agreed!  It was the devil in me that posted it...  The saddo bit of me was looking at the engine combinations - jets (plural) driving one set of wheels, engines (plural again) driving one set of wheels, radial aircraft engines etc...

I think the second or last machine had something like 4 v12's somehow joined together working on one axle.  I lost count of the short exhaust up-pipes.   ;D
