As some of you have noticed, my old red MV6 has moved onto pastures new,
Picked up its replacement on Friday morning, and generally quite pleased...
Got a 2008.5 Zafira B Elite, 1.9 Diseasal, 150bhp, 48K on the clock.
Its no Omega...but fits the bill for our current requirements.
Nice to drive, and smoother and quicker then I expected, economical too. 6 gears is going to take some getting used to though after an automatic!
At least we still have the other MV6 for playtime :D

We all so keep a people mover for when the whole tribe want to take off together. Always had Seat Alhambras in the past but now have an S-Max. Really nice drive and a good level of trim.
-
I will probably be needing one of these soon, although my budget doesnt stretch as far as yours and I will be getting rid of the O-mega :'(
Looks nice from the side and rear view, not so much from the front :-\
-
Looks well :y :y
I'm surprised to see an Elite Spec on an 08 that doesn't have Nav and/or BT Integration :-\
-
looks nice and shiny :y

Yet ;) Keeping an eye out for a cd 70 navi and colour screen...Not very common in piano black though, considering a contrast. also need to stick to a newer cd 70 unit to keep the aux-in working.
and possibly bluetooth kit to go with it too..
Else may go for a Parrot 9200 for bluetooth, with sd card for the tunes.
Yes, surprising the amount of things missing I would expect on an Elite.
I wish manufactures would consolidate ranges a bit, must be 10+ zafira's..
I would like 'windy' windows banned ;)
Then Basic, Mid, Fully loaded, and sport models.
Would surely be cheaper to market and produce, and easier for the customer.
Few bits want a little tarting up on it, but was about the best I could find without travelling the entire country over and over again. Seen a fair few of these now, ranging from ok at best to downright crap.
-
Already enabled the hidden 'speed dependant locking' feature that the ecu supports, but VX wont turn on for some reason, using a '3rd party tool' ;)

Whats that?...... ::) :-[

Good luck on the hunt for the CD 70 Navi ::) ::)
TBH, I think I'd be considering other options... Parrot 9200 is a good kit and supports stereo music streaming IIRC :-\ :-\ Perhaps nav app on your phone for those odd occasions it's actually needed now? :-\ :-\
-
basically activates the central locking when you hit 10mph, and unlocks it again when you remove the key from the ignition.
Nothing you cant do youself by leaning over and pressing a button...but nice all the same, esp with the dog in the back.

yup, the 9200 is looking tempting, esp with the vx kit so it uses the steering controls rather than its own remote..be even better if it used the screen too!
cd70 is a nice to have, not really a show stopped, and I think i'd prefer the parrot to the vx bluetooth kit for the music in facility....was hard fitting enough music onto a cd again! That said, aux in from the phone will provide enough tunage...just a ballache plugging in every time...dont mind on long trips, but a pain on short ones.
-
Congrats on that , looks very comfy :)

Does it unlock again in the even of a collision?....... :)
-
the normal locking does, so dont see why it wouldnt...
not actually tested it though ;)
-
Looks good but not sure if its worthy of the ELITE badge equipment wise compared to a 10+ year old Omega.. Does it have one of those daft E handbrakes ?
-

Cheers, yes the seats are considerably better than some of the other zafiras, was one of the reasons for going up the range, they are all fine for the school run, but when most your trips are about an hour long, you need a bit of extra comfort, heaters on them are nice too.

Know what you mean Elite wise...but we are comparing the top of the range luxury car, with a family workhorse..
That said, I agree, they should load it a bit heavier instead of 'optional extras'
Normal handbrake, but it is a funny shape, soon get used to it, but is a bit of a pain when using the aux socket, as its right on top of it.

God! Talk about half empty! ??? ??? ;D ;D ;D ;D
My Merc & SWMBO's Smart will also auto lock - both are activated/deactivated by user menus ;) ;)
-
So is this now, you press the central locking button for a few seconds to toggle on / off.
Believe it was there by default on the early ones, but then the feature was removed later on, even tech2 cant apply it.. would love to know why.

With the exception of when in London, I never lock my car when driving, if you do, can someone open it should you have an accident? That is the basis of my question, nothing to do with half empty, mind looking at my glass.......... :P :P :D :D :D

Email Vauxhall & ask. ;)
I'm sure they'll have a bull shit answer about safety like Merc had when I asked why they don't have deadlocks & apparenty cars with two rears fogs illuminated could be confused with cars' brake lights! ??? ??? ??? ???

From the manual (and im sure the Omega one is similar, except for the pull on any handle to disengage)
Central locking system
Unlocks and locks doors, load
compartment and fuel filler flap.
A pull on an interior door handle
unlocks the entire vehicle and opens
the door.
Note
In the event of an accident of
a certain severity, the vehicle
unlocks automatically.

i found when looking for decent PC a lot of them were in terrible condition. Honestly some I saw had interiors which looked more like grow bags. Mine had done 21k miles when I brought it and was in superb condition. However it has been smoked in. Smells almost totally gone now except you still get a faint wiff if the suns been beaming on the car for a few hours. Heat reflective windscreen really works but one question I must ask. Whats the point on having a dimming rear view mirror when the rear privacy glass is so dark? I've seen more light emitted from a badgers backside than enter the rear of the S Max from a cars high beam. Oh as for your quest for a shat chav I wreckon you've got a good chance. I found quite few 70's when I was looking for one to fit in the Omiga

that's noooooooice!!! very noice!
the trip was saying 22mpg.... do you know what the expected consumption should be, urban/long run etc?
on the new Ford which i already adore the only thing i'm having to get used to is the throttle pedal. dab it slightly and you shoot off. you got to be lighter than a feather!!!!

Been driving since Fri...and currently sat on 42mpg
Was hoping for the 40-50 mpg range, and think Ill be acheiving it. There are less powerful 1.9's which should return more, but I was aiming for the best of both worlds, and im not disappointed with its power either.

Fair play mate... what sort of driving will you be doing? in the ford i got 46mpg from a run and i checked tonight and got 33mpg from JUST stop-start town driving. quite pleased but if i can better that by being even slower i will ;D
-
Thats about 200 mile, about 120 in 3 long runs, rest short runs.
Economy wasnt the main driving factor, although it was a fairly major consideration.
If it was the be all and end all, I would have bought something smaller and lighter, as well as less powerful....And Cheaper, the price of these would keep the omega in fuel for a while.
-
Very nice, did consider one before i bought the Insignia.

The Zafira would have been easier for you to get in and out of and there would be more room in the back for your aids ::) ;D

Saw it in the flesh yesterday and it does look nice, there's something about star silver, oh and bellend purple ::)

Can't quite see Tub's in one ;D

As a comparion, my mpg for the commute is around 52-54 mpg with the long term mpg sitting at 48-49 mpg.
The Vx bluetooth function is very good, way better than a parrot or similar and can be fitted to the cd30 as well as the cdc40 and cd70.

So what you are saying Jimbob the omega has become old hat
I find a lot of members on here are getting rid of their omegas?
Are we experiencing a deminishing market?

I would have thought that the valeters would have cleaned the dirty sport button on the dash ;D ;D

My MPG is improving with my gear changes LOL keep forgetting to change up! 6 is taking some getting used to. 46 mpg over 2 commutes. Double what I got in the omega!
Sat in the omega earlier (to do a code read) ahh the comfort.
Glad we've still got one, and I suspect If the still made them I would now own a considerably newer one.
Did feel a little more like home today for some reason.
-
i do like the zafria, looks like i might need one as well soon, what is the 6 speed like as i was looking at a 1.9 auto diesel and it didnt drive too nicely at all
-
Im quite enjoying the ride...except when I find its chugging cos I've forgotton to change down ;D
Smooth, quick enough when pressed. Im quietly suprised actually.
Mark will give a better picture im sure, as hw has driven one a lot further than I have, and is considerably more skilled in doing so!

It should still pull well from 1500rpm so your really letting it get bogged down.
The key thing to do is clean the EGR well, the manifold pressure sensor and the throttle body (yes, despite being a diesel it has a throttle butterfly).

Six speed is fine as long as you dont chip it, its worth doing 60K gearbox oil changes though.
Never had to many issues with the auto, pretty smooth and precise (but a higher road tax bracket), maybe a fluid change is required.
The diesels output a lot of torque with the 16V 1.9 giving 320-340 Nm at around 2100rpm (and much more if chipped) so you do have to look after your gearbox.
