Title: Snapped bracket that holds belt to the alternator/pulley

Hi all,

Started up this morning and heard a snap, turned off engine in about a second and popped the bonnet.

Found that the metal bracket that holds the pulley above the alternator had snapped off (sheared) so the belt was loose.


The car has been harder to start recently (cold weather excepted) so I am thinking that maybe the alternator has seized and then the extra load snapped off the bracket holding the pulley?


I am being rescued soon.


Thoughts?

I'm not familiar with diesels but I'd rather think mainly of the pulley and secondarily the seized alternator, which is easy to check as you try to move the alternator the self whether it is rolling or not. If rolling then still possible worn/broken bearings there are in the alternator then a repair kit buying is recommended for 30quid IIRC . Although everything is possible in case of Omega though seized alternators can be so rare that I've never heard about it up to now. Good luck with sorting out matey!  :y
