Brake system or clutch system fluid low .. handbook pages 12, 28, 204 :)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.reynolds983/Manuals/Omega2002Manual.pdf
-
Yup ;) everyone inc. me answered handbrake on ;D
as per the AA site...
Brake system warning light
This light will remain illuminated when the handbrake is engaged. Illumination after releasing the handbrake may indicate low brake fluid level.
Refer the the handbook and add the correct brake fluid at once to bring the level up to the MAX mark. As the brakes wear the fluid level will slowly drop. Check your brake fluid level frequently to ensure there is no further rapid loss of fluid.
If the brake fluid is too low and brake pedal travel is distinctly longer than usual, one of the two hydraulic brake circuits may have failed. Do not continue your journey and seek assistance.
If the light remains illuminated, even though the brake fluid level is correct, this may indicate a sensor fault. Take your vehicle to a dealer or garage as soon as possible.
-
It's a general warning about a fault in the braking system.

Looks like I better check out the tow bar electrics, only got the one socket; I have an old towing board that I used to use in the early 80's I could use to test, but have the sockets changed the way they are wired more recently?............ :-\ :-\

I think the MOT only tests a 13 pin socket & not the old style 12N socket :-\
-
Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems!! :( I had a Peugeot 407 last year with one of these and it was acting up! Damned expensive!!! :o
-
"8 Isn’t this just another excuse for the government to get older cars off the road?
No....."
No indeed just more ways for garages to rip you off saying this that and this needs changing...It will only cost £500. ;D
-
Have read some interesting comments from MOT testers on another forum saying they would not fail cars with aftermarket HIDs fitted as long as they could be adjusted electrically from the switch. Will be interesting to see how those guys get on without the wash system.
-
& they will still rev the tits off your motor to warm it up >:(

Aye that's why I go to one 25miles away and their a family business not too fussy nothing like these main garages ATS, Halfords, Quick Fit, etc .. But I bet there will be more cars for sale MOT failure and scrapped because of this :-\

You missed one - very low pads (as it lowers fluid level). Apparently. Not that I would know. Not me.
On Omega, and virtually every other car out there, that light is controlled by handbrake switch and the fluid level switch.

Correct, bloody stupid as not many cars have the 13 pin :-X

.....
Correct, bloody stupid as not many cars have the 13 pin :-X
They'll get more popular as all new caravans now come with a 13 pin plug .... far better than the 12N/S plugs/sockets :y
Both my cars now have a 13 pin ;)

Certainly on the "Rally Field" very few 12N/12S units left, I'd guess around 80% are 13 pin now.

According to the Apprentice, remove the towing hook and there is no need to test the socket. Wonder if that also applies to detachable towbars?
-
..... Wonder if that also applies to detachable towbars?
My tester just said I can't test it if it's not therewhen I asked about detachable towbars ...... that was before the electrics became testable though. :-\
-
Tony has just told me that removing the hook means they don't test the electrics so I'd assume it to be the case with a detachable. Mine still has 12 N/S so not testable anyway.

They still check towbar itself and mounting points :y
-
They still haven't bought in that duck tape is obligatory as here in France.
-
What is situation regarding sat emissions light on during test - will that be a fail in future? - I don't think it does now.
Someone said any warning light on will be a fail?
-
Nope ..
Warning lights
As well as electronic parking brake and electronic stability control warning lights (where fitted) the MOT test will also include checks for the correct function of the following, where fitted;
Headlight main beam warning light
Electronic power steering warning light
Brake fluid level warning light
Seat belt pre-tensioner warning light
The vehicle will also fail if a Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp indicates a system malfunction.
The car will fail if a speedometer is not fitted, is incomplete, inoperative, has a dial glass broken/missing or cannot be illuminated.
The car will fail if an Electronic Parking Brake warning lamp is illuminated to indicate a malfunction.
The tester will check for the presence and correct operation of the ESC malfunction warning light
some cut and pasting there to get rid of other stuff as the question is about warning lights :)
-
ok- then he is saying that any warning light on dash will be a fail from 2014. I had better check his source.

"from 2014" ... not seen anything published that far ahead TBH :(

I seem to reading somewhere our European buddies only have to get their equivalent test done every 2 years. So we will fall in line with that one too will we? :-\

I hope not. Enough death traps out there, and for some, the MOT is the only reason to fix dangerous issues.
-
The 2.6 estate passed its MOT today....no advisories at all.....sailed through. ;) :y
-
Don't know about the rest of the EU but Spain test every 2 years from new up to 10 years old then reverts to annual.
I'm obviously on the annual!
-
rechecked and at least for now emissions light on "petrols" not a problem but is a problem on diesels.
-
does traction control fall into the esc category as the traction control doesnt work at all on my car so the bulb has been removed as it stays on all the time ?

Whilst MOTing mine we were having a good laugh and chat (not about the car... It passed first time even though I didn't check it over) and it seems that Euroland are looking to change to annual mot to come in line with us :-\
-
That'll be a nice for someone else to get bent over for a change ;D who said the EU was all take take take ::)

Is ABS bulb removed as well?
-
my cavalier turbo gets amusing, i remove the 4x4 fuse so they can brake test on the rollers but that puts an orange light on and the mot tester gets all confused when i explain what ive just done!
