Hi guys,
My new Ford.... shifts beautifully but today I noticed (just after I'd had my wheels balanced) that it was a bit hard and clunked in to reverse from 'P'. I put it down to being parked on an incline. But checked it a few times since and it's hit and miss as to whether it does it or not. Any ideas?
A quick google jobby and it seems the shift cable could be having some trouble, whether it needs replacing or lubing up. I was under the car yesterday having a nose around and saw the going in to the transmission (looked like the same-ish cable that the omega has for its throttle cable)... presuming this was the said shifter cable?
any help guys wud be great :y

Hi again guys, sorry not bumping... just want to know if what i'm about to do is correct :)
this pic (pinched from google) is what I have going in to the transmission....

do I just clean the whole assembly with silicone spray and then cover it in grease? :)
-
Go steady if cleaning the electrical switch. It may be sensitive to cleaning agents and need a cirtain grease. Ie white lithium grease. ..."may"
Worth a bit if research to avoid possibly expensive mistakes. :)

did you not have any warranty from the garage??

+1,if it came from a garage take it back.
-
yeah it did come with 3k warranty. but theyre in southend. if its an easy fix i'd rather save myself the petrol and do it myself :y
-
but by doing that youve invalidated the warranty if it causes other problems, sometimes worth the petrol to get it sorted out by the garage

Fair enough lads :y its got 2 1/2 months still left on it so ill see how it goes :y
out of interest do we think this is a likely shifter cable issue? as I mentioned it shifts nice whilst driving :y

is it possible to check fluid level or is it sealed for life

I've looked on the pan and theres no ''fill''. only a drain plug ??? there appears to be no dipstick for it either. the Haynes manual only covers the manual transmission ::)

cheers henry... am I just being dumb and not seeing it then? ::) ;D

Don't be too concerned if it was on an incline - the mechanical gearbox lock may have been under strain, esp if the handbrake wasn't applied, or is a bit poor.
-
right. Apologies to all. Got in the car this mornin. I've simply not been pressing brake firm enough. When i put a bit more pressure on its fine. Lol just obviously getting used to it. Sorry to waste peoples time though

There is quite a bit about those gearboxes failing and this quote
Could someone help me, my car is completely broken down and the garage is asking for £2400 as both Actuator and Control Unit are gone, do I've any way to get it fixed cheaper otherwise I'll have to scrap the car
:o
I would get it sent back to the dealers if you have anymore trouble with gear selection mate :(
