Title: ZIF connector - where from ?
Post by: albitz on 22 March 2013, 20:01:37
Acer Apire 7735z.The little plastic retaining clip which retains the keyboard ribbon to the socket in the motherboard has broken.Ive been told the retaining clips are unavailable but the motherboard (ZIF) socket should be available complete with clip.Google hasnt really provided any help,so I thought it might be worth asking OOFers.
Any info mucho appreciated.Tia. :)

bit of electric tape holds them in place, its how I fixed my neighbours ribbon cable for the monitor

i tried a dab of superglue but the ribbon wasnt quite in the right place so two rows of keys didnt work.Seems it has to be in exactly the right spot. Also removing the superglue might be a bit of an ask, hence the search for a new socket.

Hi mate, just to give you some idea.PHT means the connector is plated through hole, and goes through the motherboard. And is soldered from underneath,SMD means surface mount devise its soldered on top of the mother board. So there are different connectors, depending on how the connector is attached to the PCB.Hope that makes sense :)if you like just send me the motherboard.Myself and the wife are ipc certified solderers,we will do it for free.Just postage costs,HTH Dean :y

It's very likely to be Surface mount, as it is on virtually all laptop keyboard connectors.
